How to Clean a White Board

Two months ago when we visited my dad, my five year old used permanent markers on his dry erase board. Most people wouldn’t really care but my dad’s white board is the center of his social/ prayer calendar.  I was horrified and the unnamed princess was oblivious.

Then a few weeks ago, my friend mentioned that her daughter had done the same thing and someone had told her how to fix it. I called my dad and immediately told him how to remove it and all the crazy permanent pictures were gone when we visited for Christmas.

I had been wanting a white board to use with homeschooling for some time but I was too cheap to buy one. I think cheap should be my middle name but then some people might take that the wrong way. Sorry, back on task.

Anyway.. Damion  had put this dry erase board in our garage six years ago to keep track of our oil and mileage, which was a great idea. However, that was six years ago and it hadn’t been touched since that time. We actually don’t even own those cars anymore and unless the new owners call us out of the blue to ask if we did have an oil change at 17,000 miles for the Toyota Matrix, that information is no longer needed.  But the marker had been on the board for six years in the hot garage and when I had tried to wipe it off before, it just stayed put.

So I decided to give the permanent marker removal tip a try and you know what? It worked.

So today let me share it with you. It’s so easy though you won’t know what to do.

Take your marked up dry erase white board…

Now you need some dishwashing detergent, powder or gel works fine. If you use powder, add water to make a paste.

I use the little Cascade packs so I just ripped open the white side and mixed it with a little water.

Now just put that paste on a damp paper towel and rub your white board.

It works amazingly well.  The secret though is to keep using fresh detergent. It will only work for a few seconds and then you just need to change it out for fresh and it works again!

It works great and now I have a white board that I can use as much as I wish without spending anymore money on one!

I wonder what else it can clean….
