When You Wish…
My family loves Disney. We were working on collecting all the Disney movies on DVD before our van was broken into this spring and all our movies were stolen. Then we had hoped to go to Disney World this year but we bought a new house instead, which was 100% worth it! So now we’re clinging to what we have left of Disney.
This morning the girls and I woke up extremely early (some happier than others) and drove an hour in traffic across town to be at the opening of the brand new Disney store in the Houston Galleria. It was awesome. You know it has to be amazing if I woke up at 6:45 to go and I’m still happy at almost 11pm. Momma usually crashes sometime around 10pm.
There’s several things I love about this new Disney store. First it had great decor. When you first walk in to your right is a walk through castle with animated mirror for little girls. Yes please. That’s all I have to say. Why couldn’t they have that when I was little? There’s also magical trees that change scenes and colors. Another is the fact that they have imposed Houston landmarks into the Disney scenes running along the top of the store. My love of Houston just went up even further. A huge corporation like Disney took the time out to research Houston landmarks and tie our community into the store? Wow, I love that. Not to even mention that if you keep going along the pixie dust trail to the back of the store they have a coloring / movie area which will also be the place for special events. Princess Newbie loved this area. Any place that has crayons is an alright place to her.
My ultimate favorite thing about the Disney store is the “cast” or their employees. They never break character. Let’s admit it …. there’s days that you would rather not see a snotty nose kid wipe their germ infested hands on your pants or even see a child at all!! But these guys just smile and play along like they are your child’s best friend / Fairy Godmother come to life! You know that at least once a week they probably have a child use the stuffed animal display as dodge balls but I bet these people never loose their smile. Several of the female employees, “cast members”, took the girls around the store letting them ooohh and awww at all the dolls and toys. A great male employee sat and talked to Princess Newbie while she colored which is impressive since she only talks back when you mention the words, “hot dog, cookie, and Ming Ming”. When Princess Newbie had finally had it and attempted to go racing out the front door in a typical two year old fit, I didn’t have to worry about the other two as I chased her down because I knew the cast members had them safe and sound. Since they never break character, them telling you about how Disney is trying to give every single kid a key to imagination doesn’t sound corny like it would if anyone else said it. You believe it because they believe it so deeply and act it out 100%. The cast members are the amazing and bring the Disney store to life.
I really wish I would have taken my good camera to show you how great the new store was but I forgot it at home. My cell phone camera and I are currently at odds. The Disney store in the Galleria has an opening ceremony every single day at 10am which is so exciting. One child in line will get chosen to help turn the key of imagination and open the doors. It’s the little details that Disney is all about.
The rest of the day didn’t go as well because we had to clean the older girl’s bedroom. We went from playful imagination to sheer horror. Being the mom of three girls is a lot of fun as long as you don’t have to clean their rooms, put up with the drama, or deal with them stealing your hair brushes! But we made it throughout and every girl is snuggled up with their Mickey Mouse doll tonight.
Disclaimer: This is my honest review of the new Disney Store in the Houston Galleria. I was not paid anything for this review, I just like Disney. If you would like to pay me I accept $100 dollar bills and bon bons.
Finally in a subject that is way off topic…. Our Friend, Laura, lost her husband to cancer this morning. Please be in prayer for her and her family as they deal with his very quick passing from a disease that he fought so hard to beat. Thanks friends.
