Working Out At Home

I’m trying to shed my extra layer of Bobbie. You know the saying, “I’m not fat, I’m fluffy”. Well let’s just say that I’m fluffier than cotton candy.

Many of you know that I’ve been juicing like crazy to help loose weight but I’ve also been trying to work out. Some nights I just can’t find the time to do it and other nights I’m laid out on bed dying after working out. My friend Courtney and I went on a walk the other night and I thought I was going to pass out. She has long skinny legs that go really fast and I have vienna sausages that fry when rubbed together quickly.

One thing I have been doing that has been working for me is Zumba. Of course I’m not going to drag myself out to a public gym to do it because I have NO rhythm and because I try to avoid public humiliation. But I looked to my good friend YouTube and found my answer.

It’s easy. I made a playlist of several Zumba videos I like and I just play them and workout. My TV will play YouTube videos because we have Apple TV but some of the Zumba videos just won’t play on the TV for some unknown reason. So either I still work out in the living room on our large TV and do the videos it will play, or I work out in our bedroom with the videos playing on the laptop.

This works for me because I can do it at anytime without having to find a babysitter if Damion isn’t home, I have no reason not to do it since it’s right here on my trusty computer, and it’s free. I don’t have to have cute work out clothes because the only people that see me are my family.

Yes, they do make fun of me and Damion does try to take pictures without me seeing. But I know that in this family teasing and laughter are acts of love so I’m ok with it.

The only warning I will give is that the Zumba instructors use whatever music they want, usually with some curse words. Also not all moves are appropriate for children to watch. I do not let my kids be in the same room with me just because I don’t want my little girls moving like that. I’m older and married with plans to move like that for no one else, including Mr. Byrd because he would die laughing.

This is just one of my Zumba playlists.  If you don’t like Zumba than just search Youtube for other exercises (or yoga) that you do like, make a playlist of them and do it!  We also have a sign language playlist that I use for our homeschool lessons. YouTube is great, just be creative with it.

  1. Good for you! I’m so proud of you! I see a Zumba workout at my gym, but there aint no way I’m gonna do that there. . . .at the gym. . . .i see those sleezyballs going over and peeping in the windows at the gym and it creeps me out.

I might just try this at home!
I just found the beauty of ON DEMAND work out videos. I’ve been doing YOGA with my 7 year old to limber her up a bit for softball.

    • You are so wise. On Demand? I never have thought of that. Well we don’t have direct TV anymore but if we did…
And you are the best momma.

  2. Hey Bobbie!
I would love to have your playlist! I have been wanting to try Zumba for forever!

    • Here is one of my playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0EA995BB6D9C839E and the other: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5B4C7B009BB39DCB

It is not christian music. It is modern hip hop music, bad words and all so please be warned. :)

I saw a picture of your youngest the other day on our computer. Wow, that was so long ago!

      • Yes…..so very long ago… it feels like a lifetime!!! He is turning 13 in July! I can’t believe it!

It is hard to believe that we have been away from Houston for 9 years this summer.

I love reading your blog….hearing about all of your adventures…and checking out your craft ideas (not that I have any free time to craft at this point, but I like looking!)
