For the Love of Lobster

This weekend began and ended with lobster. You would think we spent the weekend on the beach but instead we spent it on the couch. I love couch weekends.

Friday Joe’s Crab Shack invited some of my friends and myself out to preview their fall menu items.  It was so nice not only because it was delicious but because as a stay at home mom I was finally able to send drool worth pictures to Mr. Byrd while he was working. Usually it’s the other way around and he’s sending me pictures from Brazilian steak houses and high end restaurants. Did I happen to mention that Joe’s Crab Shack is one of our family’s (including Mr. Byrd’s) favorite restaurant? Our kids beg us to go there all the time. They love crab and the playground helps.

So I texted Mr. Byrd a few pictures like this one;

and I got a reply that said, “I hate you”. HA! He can’t hate me, I’m too adorable and he knows it.

There was one surprise friday. I hate beer and I’m not really a drinker. It turns out that I love the Samuel Adam’s flavored Crab Pot. Ever since friday I’ve been craving it. It doesn’t taste like beer, just very clean and crisp.  Mr. Byrd wanted to go to Joe’s again tonight but I have to have some self control right? So we’ll go on Wednesday instead.

I also took home the bright green mussel shells from their fall crab pot, Santolla , and the beautiful pink scallop shell from one of their other new pots, KJ.  Why? Because they are awesome and I needed them for homeschool science! Who knew a dinner could be so educational? Great tasting crab and cool science manipulatives? It’s a win win situation for homeschoolers. The fact that they use local produce and are on fire about providing healthy menu items for children that give them the power to choose kinda showed me that they are a company that cares about my family and my town of Houston. (They are based in Houston, whoop!)

So how then did the weekend end with Lobster?

My friend Courtney brought her sweet boy over to let me take a few pictures of him this morning. She is amazing to let me use him as my guinea pig to learn more about portrait photography. She brought him decked out in his nantucket gear with lobster shirt, plenty of plaid and a cute bucket hat.

Sometimes I look at pictures I’ve taken and think that I will never get the hang of photography like I really want to. Then I take a few great pictures that tell me I am on the right track and it gives me more confidence to keep going.

 So to celebrate I’m going back to Joe’s for one of my  new favorite desserts, this carrot cake that they are introducing for fall. Oh my gosh. It’s heaven and almost better than my granny’s but don’t tell her that!

And yes, that is caramel sauce on top. Who’s meeting me there? I’ll let you send Mr. Byrd crab laden picture texts too.

  1. It’s not a lobster on Cash mans shirt, it’s a crawfish!!!

  2. Courtney says:

    lol. Trey is in denial. Although when we bought it, I thought it was a crawfish too. Which is why we bought it. Then later I realized it was a lobster. :/ Oh well. It’s still cute. And we can pretend it’s a crawfish when we go to Louisiana. :)

  3. Trey says: uh no. Comment back and say, “it’s definitely a crawfish. Because our last name is Crawford AND because we have friends that are gonna be on Swamp People. Oh and by the way, you’re the one in denial.” (as if that makes any sense)
