You know you’re loved when your sister calls you jerk and your best friend calls you turd.
Friendships exists on all different levels. There’s those friends that when you see them coming you have to look at your watch and decide if you have an extra 2 hours for the conversation before you run and hide or the friends that you stalk because your only desire is to be as cool as them. Are those really friendships? I don’t know.
What I do know is that true friendship is often found with people that call you loving nicknames such as “Turd”.
Those are the friends that you call when you’re convinced that someone is trying to break into your house and murder you. Then when you find out it’s just a cow going crazy in your yard, they don’t die laughing or tell all your other friends. When you cut your own hair, they’re they ones that try to keep a straight face while admiring your mullet. Before you actually step out in public they tell you the truth and help you fix it. True friends are the ones that take your new cooking skills on a trial run and gush about them in front of the cute guy, in other words they are perfect liars. Those friends are the ones that cause you to go into hysterics with just one look because the memories of things that you two pulled off together are too funny to be easily forgotten. They’re the ones that when you’re single and in college help you sort the boys from the men and wipe the drool from your lip.
True friends are the ones that don’t jude you when you announce that you are now dating a guy from the internet that lives 4 hours away. They even hide in an apartment upstairs to take his picture and get his license plate number when he comes to take you on your first date in case he turns out to be a real life looney tune.
Most importantly they’re the ones that know who you really are. They know that you’ve made huge mistakes and they encourage you to keep going forward. They trust you with their fears and love you when you don’t even want to love yourself.
The fact that they call you “turd” is nothing but a detail.
My best friend from college that tore up Tyler, Texas with me is in the hospital today. It’s not life threatening, she’ll be released on Wednesday. But yet when you hear that someone you love is in the hospital, it’s hard to think of your life without that person. I know for sure that if she wasn’t in my life, it would have been a lot more boring and they would have had to lay off half of the police force in Tyler.
We are the fruit loops in a world full of cheerios. She gets me, which is scary.
In honor of her, I’m giving you this free printable. It’s a great saying that describes our relationship to a “t”. Right click to save and print it.
