Today someone let a little secret slip.
But let’s backtrack a bit and keep the my families hopes up that I’m going to announce a pregnancy up for a little bit longer.
This morning I woke up before Mr. Byrd for once, got dressed and was across town by 7am. I hear angels singing, do you? It’s a true texas miracle. I was there to attend the Disney Social Media Moms On The Road Celebration. It was a fantastic day.
First, I got to meet and hear Shannon Miller speak.
Growing up I remember watching her on the Olympics and wanting to do exactly what she was doing. Of course I was born without coordination, balance, or athletic ability so that was out of the question. However as I heard her speak about the power that moms have to encourage one another I kept thinking of Princess Girly Girl and her love of gymnastics. She is so desperate to learn more that she’s being using our deck railing or random playground equipment as a balance beams and she now has an old mattress upstairs to practice her flips on. Yes, she is teaching herself how to do a forward flip. Shannon shared about when she broke her elbow right before the olympic trials and couldn’t practice her routines but decided instead to turn that negative into a positive and just worked on stregnthening her body instead while her elbow healed. She didn’t let it defeat her but instead used that time to her advantage.
If Princess Girly Girl keeps going towards gymnastics as her passion, that’s something she’s going to have to learn. But even if she doesn’t, that is still something that she needs to know in life. It was so motivational to me as a mother.
We also heard Laura Spencer who is Disney’s East Coast Social Media Manager speak and she is just hilarious. I loved her because she knows who she is and embraces it. That is powerful. This is who I am. I can change for the better if I choose to but if I work to be something that I am not, I will always be working and tire myself out. Be who you are. Let me say it again. Be who you are.
I also got to hear Dayna Steele speak and it was hilarious. She is me but spunkier, smaller, and funnier. Plus she gets up everyday at 5am. That is not me. She has written a book that after today’s talk I am really looking forward to reading called, 101 Ways to Rock Your World: Everyday Activities For Success Every Day.
So what were my kids doing while all this was going on? Mr. Byrd was home with them and he took them willingly to Chuck E. Cheese. He either deserves sainthood or a mental health check up, I’m not sure.
Later I went to lunch with a ton of blogging friends. It was a time just for me which is rare. It’s rare only because I don’t make time for me enough.
I came home to find very happy kids, a laughing husband (yes, he was laughing after Chuck E. Cheese, mental health check up for one!) and a dog that licked me to death. It was bliss.
Then if that wasn’t enough bliss, I got to go see baby Cash and smell his head. He’s the cutest baby ever! (except mine).
So what was the big secret?
Well we have secretly been planning a trip to Disney World in December. Our kids do not know! or did not know! I wanted to do the huge reveal to them on video the night before we left. They have never been and have been begging to go for a long time.
This afternoon not long after I had gotten home Damion and I were talking about my day. I was telling him all about the Disney On The Road Celebration. That’s when he said, “Did you tell them we were are going to Disney?”.
Screams. Instant screams from Princess Goofy filled the room. She jumped up from where she had been sitting on the stairs and screamed, “WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY?!?!?!?!”. Her face was beaming. Damion as calm as I’ve ever seen him simply replied, “One day but not for a very long time because we have to save up the money to go. It’s very expensive so it’ll probably be a few years.” Instantly her face fell and she believed him, I think. Princess Girly Girl would not have fallen for that excuse but luckily she was outside. I think Damion deserves an oscar.
So no, I am not pregnant!! Yea! But we are going to Disney World! Just don’t tell the kids. (again).
Tomorrow I hit the road for Ft. Worth and then another conference on Saturday in Dallas. Already once tonight I’ve had to tell Damion, who is staying here, “No new TV’s and no mounting them on the wall!”.
