Valentine’s Day actually gets fun when you have kids and a spouse that you’re more in love with than you were when you got married 9 years ago. Now that our girls are getting older I want to be able to decorate a little bit for Valentine’s Day but I don’t want to break the bank. So using a few things that I already had and a few items from the dollar store, I made a great Valentine’s Day Mantel and made some adorable Valentine’s Decor for virtually nothing.
The heart garland at the top of the fireplace is from the Dollar Store and cost me a whopping $1. I attached it to bobby pins and then just slide the bobby pins in between the brick and crown molding for it to hold without having to use nails or tacks. The tinsel heart in the middle of the mantel was also $1 at the Dollar Store. That’s $2 so far if you’re keeping track.
The left side of the mantle is my favorite part. The girls called these valentine’s flowers. They are so simple to make. All you need is foam (from the dollar store) and two packages of the heart picks currently at The Dollar Tree. I used moss and cake stands that I already had it was $3 to make these.
First arrange the picks as you want in the foam and cut the picks to get varying heights. Then remove the picks but lay them out in the order they will go and lightly pile the moss on top of the foam. Then stick the picks back into the foam. The picks will help hold the moss into place. Place them onto cake stands or even a wooden serving tray and you would have a great mantel decoration or even Valentine’s Table Centerpiece. These would also be adorable party decor for little girls birthday parties.
Finally on the right side of the mantel are two clear vases that I placed a patterned piece of scrapbook paper into and one of my favorite Anthropologie vases to add a different color in without overpowering.
I love the happy colors and simple but not overpowered decorations. Are you decorating for Valentine’s Day?

OMGoodness! I never thought of putting scrapbook paper in hurricanes (and I have several). I thought in the pic they were candles!! They look lovely with the Anthro vase.
I normally decorate pretty neutral for winter (brown, black, white, grey, silver, gold) but don’t normally do anything for Valentine’s Day. I did buy a book at the thrift store to cut up for paper crafting and thought about making some neutral heart garlands.
I love your heart/flowers, too
Great job!
I love these ideas and what a great thought to put scrapbooking paper inside clear vases. Brilliant!
The sweetheart candies were also from the dollar store. What do you do for Valentine’s Day?
