This is it.
This weekend are the last races of swim team for this year.
There will be no more bonding with the coaches at early morning swim practices, so much so that I can identify them all in this picture just by their shoes.
They’ll be no more raises at the goggle factory since we keep them in business during swim team season. (Seriously how many pair of goggles can you loose in one season?)
They’ll be no more entertaining / restraining the resident three year old for a few extremely hot hours on Saturday.
There will be no more mandatory early morning ponytails for me, which I have now been sporting every day for three months and my skin will go back to lightly glistening instead of pouring buckets of sweat in the hot sun.
But there will be memories of amazing victories and triumphs. A little girl winning her first medal, her sister doing her first actual dive into the pool and the littlest one learning to swim because there’s nothing she wants more than to be on the swim team.
Amazing friends have been made, we’re more grounded in our community and our kids have learned countless life skills that they can carry with them forever.
This weekend is it. We’re even celebrating with an inside (air conditioned) pool! One hand I’m glad not to have to walk the kids to the pool so early in the morning that I can only seem to get one eye open. Some of my neighbors might think I’m a pirate. On the other hand, this year was good. We have all made friends and dived right in (ha. get it?) to the spirit of swim team. It’ll be kinda sad to go back to only having people under the age of 9 to talk to instead of the other parents at practice.
Saturday and Sunday is the big race though, the last one with all the teams together. Only one of our daughters, the oldest, qualified to swim. If you want to keep up with how she’s doing through the races, feel free to follow me on Instagram or Facebook. I’m so proud and nervous for her.
So…. this is it. Fingers crossed.
