We had an amazing weekend playing at a relative’s house in the hill country slightly north west of San Antonio Texas. They live close to the Guadalupe River and both days we made the short drive to the river to play in it.
The views are gorgeous and the hills are what set the awesomeness in stone. Well that’s until you have to walk back up the hill that is so gorgeous. Then you might need an ambulance waiting at the top or a tow truck with a winch.
But at the bottom of that huge hill sat this gorgeous scene of the Guadalupe river. It was very low and rocks and tree roots that you wouldn’t normally see where all unearthed. It was magical to find and discover things that you wouldn’t normally see.
The girls had so much fun. They all swam and then we walked far down the river exploring the huge rocks and winding tree roots.
Then they found a rope swing that was supposed to drop into the water but there was no water so instead they took turns jumping off a small cliff while swinging over rocks below while my heart took turns dropping way down into my stomach.
This girl was queen of finding things. The first day she pulled sun glasses out of the bottom of the river. They had been down there for awhile and are encased with small stones but they are prized by her.
Sunday she found a hog jaw (bone) full of teeth at the bottom of the river. Aunt Nancy was telling her how she could go home and clean it to paint it. Aunt Nancy was quickly informed that her plan is not to paint it. Oh No. That girl has money on the mind. She is going to go home, pull all the teeth and put them all under her pillow for the tooth fairy. The tooth fairy has been informed of this scam and is plotting her revenge, or so I might have heard.
She’s a funny one.
Not only did we have a great time playing in the river and spending time with our family, Mr. Byrd and I were able to sneak away on a date. We went on a hot date to Bass Pro Shop where I took pictures of the Ducky Dynasty cardboard cutouts and then bought a Duck Dynasty Cup. We’re wild. No Kids? Ok… How bout’ Bass Pro Shop?
By the time you read this we’ll be almost home. So put away the ski mask and black gloves! Unless you want to break in our house to clean it and then I’ll circle Houston a few times until you’re done.
It was an amazing weekend for us. How was your weekend?
