Paint Chip Art became popular a few years ago and has since started to go out of style. But two things made me destined to try it. One is that I’m cheap. Two is that I have a huge problem picking paint colors so I have an extreme pile of paint chips. So I took a frame with a beach picture I had that I was no longer using and revamped it to make easy Paint Chip Art.
This is just a picture that proves that I have a paint issue. I just can’t make up my mind. Usually I roll through the paint section of the store on every single trip and take every paint chip in even general color I’m thinking of. Two years after moving into this house I still have paint samples painted on the wall (well not that wall above, it’s painted!) but I also had a huge pile of left over paint chips.
When I started this project the frame was a light wood color with a washed out beach scene on the inside. It worked great at our old house but did not have a home at our newer house. A few swipes of black spray paint over the frame and it was ready for a new look.
I took a paper punch that the adorable Anjelica gave me last year (that can be found here) and punched all the paint chips to a fun tag shape. Then I simply started gluing them right on top of the old beach scene, grouping by colors while going for a waterfall effect.
Towards the bottom I glued down two large rectangle paint chips because I was running low on the smaller paint chips! But it worked out great by providing a great pop of color.
It was an easy project that filled a need and saved a ton of paper from the trashcan. And I know what some of you might say, “it’s wrong to take paint chips for art projects”. True. I agree. But these are ones I had on hand! If you want to do something similar and you don’t have a paint chip hoarding issue than talk to the store manager and ask if you can have some. Just ask, it’s simple!
Do you have paint chip art or other crafts made from recycled objects?
