The Love of 3 Girls
My sister and I are total opposites in most ways and always have been. She was the popular social butterfly growing up and I was the shy wall clinging band nerd. She looks like our mom and I look like our dad. She’s the smart put together career orientated one and I’m the frumpy one that has spent the last 8 years wiping kids butts.
But besides our amazing sense of humor (and humbleness) there’s one thing that we really do have in common – we both love these three girls.
This weekend my sister came down to visit and it so happened that Mr. Byrd and I wound up having to make a day trip to Louisiana. So like any great sister, she offered to babysit so she could spend time with her nieces.
I knew they were going to have fun but before we even reached the Texas border we started getting text messages that looked like this:
and this:
Then the questions started –
“Can they have Sprite?”
“Can they have a Cake Pop Machine?”
“Can they have slushies?”
And then more pictures –
Captioned “She got blue candy”.
Followed by more questions –
“What do they want from Pei Wei?” followed about 60 seconds later with “Where is Taco Bell? and what does Ellie want from there?”
Simply put – Aunt Julia rocks.
It got to the point where every text just made us grin and laugh harder.
Both Mr. Byrd and I know that it’s the days like the one they spent with Aunt Julia that they will remember forever.
Am I going to take them tomorrow to all get mani / pedis, new toys, slushies and pretzels, swimming and then to dinner? Nope. I’m the boring old mom that makes them clean their room and scoop the litter box. Saturday was a special time that was just for them and Aunt Julia.
And then Aunt Julia had to leave and immediately the questions started about when she is coming back.
Soon we hope, really soon.
I think that when someone does something special for you it’s amazing and touching. But when someone extends that love and special gifts to your children, it’s ten times more meaningful.
Thanks Aunt Julia – we love you.
