It’s in the (Tote) Bag.

Scrappy Tote Bag

The other day when I grabbed the old baby bag with butterfly applique to take papers to a meeting it occurred to me that I might need to make a new tote bag soon.  We don't have a baby anymore and it's probably best if I don't carry a baby bag to a meeting with a group of adults that know I don't have a baby. So this weekend I holed up in the sewing room and made this scrappy tote bag. I didn't use a pattern because clumsy crafters can only live out their legacy if they start projects unprepared. How to Shop at Goodwill for Kids

goodwill copy

I love a good thrift store.  Anything that is cheap, vintage and slightly smelly is A - OK with me. That is the philosophy that lead me to my husband after all. Here in Houston Goodwill is expensive. Before you can walk you gotta crawl and before you can use the sewing machine, you gotta know how to hand sew. It's true. I decided the first step to teaching them to sew by hand is to show them how you have to use the needle to go through the materials. So when I was at JoAnn's the other … [Read more...]

A Simple Baby Quilt

may09_129

I wanted the new baby to have a personalized blanket like my other two princesses got from my mom and grandmother. However, that probably won't happen this time since my grandfather has been in the hospital and everyone has been busy with that. So I decided to make her a simple quilt myself. It's not perfect but that will probably be the first lesson that she learns about me. Perfection is not my goal in life nor my calling. To start making a simple quilt, cut two coordinating fabrics and batting all to the same size. I honestly didn't measure this. I just cut. Haha. That's the … [Read more...]
