How to Shop at Goodwill for Kids

goodwill copy

I love a good thrift store.  Anything that is cheap, vintage and slightly smelly is A - OK with me. That is the philosophy that lead me to my husband after all. Here in Houston Goodwill is expensive. We had a Goodwill in the small town that I grew up in and nothing was every over $2.00.  But in Houston it is not as cheap as you would think. Stained and tattered Women's T Shirts start at $7 and go up. Junky old worn shoes that scream "I kill your feet!" will be $6.00 and up. Don't even think about buying a Jacket or Dress there, you might have to take out a second car note on your … [Read more...]

Keeping Your House Market Ready

home

Anytime I hear someone mention listing their home for sale, I hear the same thing. "Groan... I have to keep the house clean!".  Everyone that we have told our house is for sale says the same exact thing to us..."man! how are you going to keep it clean with all those kids?".  Once again, we only have three kids.. not 15. I have never been called a neat freak in my entire life. In fact, my dad used to lovingly refer to my car as the rolling trashcan. I was really dreading keeping our house clean but with a few simple steps, I've been able to keep it spotless and ready for showings. Someone … [Read more...]

Valentine’s Wreath Tutorial

Valentine's Day Wreath Tutorial

Friday I posted this wreath and then promised the tutorial for today. Since the next few episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" hasn't come in the mail via Netflix yet, I guess I will post the tutorial today. If it had come in the mail then well all know that I would be doing nothing but having a "Big Bang Theory" marathon.  I am not crazy, my mother had me tested. This is a great easy project for those of you that are scared of harder craft projects. First you need the following supplies... flat wreath form, wide wired ribbon that is at least 1/2 inch wider than your wreath form, hot glue … [Read more...]

Valentine’s Wreath

Valentine's Day Wreath Tutorial

I love this Wreath. It was not what I started out to make. In my head I had a wreath full of nothing but chalkboard hearts. Wouldn't that have been amazing? The problem was that my head thinks in the big dollar signs and I shop in the little teeny tiny ones. A ton of wooden hearts would have been either a lot of cutting with the jigsaw or paying out the wazoo for some from the craft store. So as I circled the store for the fourth time with the kids dragging behind doing their usual craft store chant, "when are we going to leave?", I spotted this beautiful red and gingham ribbon in the … [Read more...]

Boring Shoe Redo

glittershoes

Last year Damion bought me sparkly silver converse shoes for our anniversary. It's all I wanted since I have a love of fun, funky shoes. They were great for a year but then they got dirty and dull. All the sparkle and shine had went away, it was kinda sad. So I decided to redo them. Do you have any old lifeless shoes that you want to make shine like the top of the empire state building. (name that movie) I've also fixed the girls glitter shoes sold at target the same way when the girls wear a spot bald. First you'll need Mod Podge and glitter. I used the really fine Martha … [Read more...]
