10 years ago I was 24.
We had been married for just a little over a year and I was still scared to drive over the tall overpasses in Houston. Living in a big city was still new to me and I was convinced that I would be mugged at anytime.
I was heavily pregnant and almost to my March 5th due date. All I remember about my 24th birthday was begging God to please let me go into labor. I didn’t go into labor that day.
However one week after my 24th birthday, on March 9th, I did get a late birthday present.
This was our first “family” photo. I painted the murals in her nursery. When we moved part of me wanted to cut the bunny out of the drywall and bring it with us.
I remember the days of just glowing from being a new mom. I loved it.
And then when our oldest was 4 months old we got the biggest surprise that arrived a month after my 25th birthday.
Life hasn’t stopped since.
I was made to be a mom. I knew it when I was 4, when I was 14, at 24 and today I’m blessed by it at 34.
And we can’t forget this guy – who has made it all possible and has supported me in going further than I ever dreamed.
10 years ago I knew I’d be a mom. I didn’t know that I would have this blog and own my own business. I dreaded the thought that we might still live in Houston and was dead set against never driving a mini van.
10 years fast forward and that’s what I am: proud Houstonian (it’s like a disease – it gets everyone after time), minivan driving, bad blogger extraordinaire, founder of Blog Elevated and curator of a mini zoo.
10 years and the only thing I would change is resisting the minivan for so long. (who doesn’t love dual sliding doors?)
Yes it’s my birthday and honestly – it’s the best one I’ve ever had. I’m surrounded in love that only grows year by year.
I am thankful.
