The Lesson (kinda)
You know how sometimes your tell your child something to do and they still don’t do it? Then something happens as a result of them not obeying the very thing you asked them to do and everything is thrown into pandemonium with a quiet hope that they finally learned their lesson. Here’s a spoiler; that thing did happen and they did not learn their lesson.
We’ve been having problems the last few months with the oldest two getting up after we put them to bed at night and turning on their lights to play. In fact they went a few months with no lightbulbs in their room because of this issue but after the problem seemed to be resolved, we gave them back the lightbulbs. So the common occurrence is that we hear them playing a long time after they were put to bed and we have to go upstairs, turn off the lights and tell them to go to sleep.
Friday night started off good. We had them pick up everything off the floor as they do every night before bed, confiscated the Little Petshop Toys from their room and turned off the lights. Once again an hour later we could hear them up playing and had to go upstairs to tell them to go to sleep. Also as usual they heard us coming and Princess Goofy jumped off her bed to try and turn off the light before we got to their room. The only problem was that is that they had brought a Princess Castle dollhouse in their room and when she jumped, she landed right on it feet first.
Long story short, her foot had a golf ball sized knot on it and she couldn’t walk so her and I packed up and headed to the ER for a few hours. Xrays confirmed that it wasn’t broken, just a good sprain and bruising. Then of course we were so wired from the ER trip that neither of us could sleep and it was 2:30 before I fell asleep.
Now if you don’t know about my love of swim team, it’s because I loath it. Saturday I woke up at 4:45am panicking that I had overslept from my alarm and that we wouldn’t get the oldest to the pool in time for her swim meet. I got back to sleep for awhile but not for long before I really did have to get up and help get her and Damion ready to leave for the swim meet. Fast Forward to them heading out the door a little before 7am with my plans to sneak back to bed for a few minutes before the other two girls woke up. This is how I know God has a sense of humor; because as I rounded the turn to my room, there was a pair of three year old eyes staring up at me, wide awake.
This story could go on for hours so let me give you the condensed version; Loaded the 2 girls up in the van and dropped the one on crutches at the pool with Damion and a chair for her. Ran and errand which involved lugging a huge canopy tent through academy, dropped tent off at the pool and drove the 4 houses to our house to park the van and walk back to the pool, spend the next 4 hours in the very hot sun watching the oldest swim while the middle laments about not being able to swim but loves all the attention she’s getting from her injury, walk home to fetch the van and come back with it to load everything back up, go home, go to lunch, have to wake up Princess Girly Girl every single time she gets still, come back home and pass out myself, wake up at 6pm, make popcorn for dinner, take a walk, put girls to bed (and no one gets up to turn on the light), watch a movie with Damion, too tired to move so stay and watch basketball documentary with him, move to the bed and finally drift off at 2am.
Sunday was spent getting our house back in order since it gets crazy if you let it go for more than a day and also trying to make Princess Goofy understand why she can’t go to gymnastics on Tuesday.
Sadly to end this long post we must end with the fact that once again tonight I had to go upstairs to take away the toys and turn off the bedroom light hours after they were put to bed. Tomorrow the lightbulb is joining the toys. The lesson did hit home, for a day. But Princess Goofy is doing really well, too well, and it’s hard to keep her down and resting.
If you saw me mention on Facebook friday that boiled peanuts recipe would be up on saturday, don’t worry, it will be up on Tuesday!
