One thing you might not know about me is that I love pencils. Pens leak, leave ink on your hands and aren’t erasable but pencils are a girls best friend. However I have a friend that disagrees and taunts me about my love of pencils. Sometimes she even loops in Mr. Byrd and her own mother to make fun of my love for lead.
However this week destiny struck. Not only was it National Pencil day on Sunday and April Fool’s Day on Tuesday, on Monday my friend who shall be called, The Grant Life, wound up visiting Houston. It was my shot! I had a chance to be…. wait for it…. Leg – gen- dary!
It all began out of innocence and love which is why I sacrificed my Swagger Wagon Magnet from the back of my mini van to make this project. I sprayed it with two coats of spray paint and let it dry.
After the paint was dry I sat down at the table with the Sharpie markers that my kids have not lost yet and sketched out a little design that would shine on the back of a pencil lover’s car. I added my blog name too because if you’re going to do it, you might as well go all the way.
Two coats of clear sealant later and we were ready for an epic pencil loving April Fool’s Day joke.
Then the perfect moment came. The Grant Life arrived at our meeting place before I did and it was easy to find her car. I quickly put the magnet on the back and acted like nothing was different. I also didn’t let me kids in on the joke or they would have given me away.
Then as we left that afternoon I sat in my van hoping that she wouldn’t see it and she didn’t. In fact The Grant Life drove all over Houston before finally finding it hours later.
You’re welcome Houston, I bet you didn’t know you were in on the joke huh?
So what was her response? “I’m going to send you an invoice for advertising your blog all over Houston”. And she laughed, a lot. And her husband laughed harder, which is what makes it a real win in my book.
All I have to say is,
Dear The Grant Life,
You can talk all the pencil hating talk you want but your bumper says differently.
Your move.
Good Luck,
The one and only lead based Clumsy Crafter
