Over the past few weeks, there’s been a lot of new readers here on Clumsy Crafter. This simple fact really helps my heart. When people read and share, it tells me that what I’m doing here is good and benefits people. It makes me extremely happy to be able to share creative ideas with amazing people such as yourself.
But one caveat to a ton of new readers is that a lot of you just don’t know me.
The best news is that I’m a pretty simple person. This is true. The things that make me happy make me really happy and they’re also cheap because I’m extremely frugal.
To start, there are a few things that I just won’t live without such as my Bible and my dogs. I’m a huge dog lover and if I see one, I probably have to pet it. But there’s a few things that I just don’t want to live without but I probably could. These are the things that I’m probably going to buy to treat myself from time to time. They’re also the things that you can most likely find in abundance in the bottom of my purse (except the Birks but only because they’re too big).

1 – Lip Balm
I’m not a girly-girl. Sorry but it’s just not me. I make a ton of jewelry like you can see here in the Leather Earring Tutorial or the Floating Glitter Necklaces but I rarely wear it. All that jewelry looks gorgeous sitting on my bathroom counter, which is where it stays when I forget to put it on.
However, I buy a lot of lip balm. A lot. I thought about counting the lip balm at the bottom of my purse today but that would just be embarrassing. There’s also always a pile of it in the door to my van.
My #1 favorite is (and will always be) the tinted lip balm from Burt’s Bees. I usually wear the color Rose. Lately, I’ve tried their gloss and I like that one a lot too. But back on the balm train, I also love the little vaseline Rosy Lip Therapy pot and the new vaseline lip balm sticks, also in Rose. I just found them and I love them. Really if a company wants me to buy something, they just need to slap the word “rose” on the label.
Which is also why my new favorite is Mario Badescu lip balm in you guessed it… Rose. It’s the priciest version at $8 a tube but it’s a nice treat.
2 – Pencils
I can’t explain it. I get a lot of questions about it but I don’t have an answer. I just love pencils – primarily Ticonderoga brand pencils. Tonight at dinner with my husband I realized that I had two in my hair but I also had on rose lip balm so #winning.
There’s always a huge stack of pencils in the bottom of my purse and about 20 in my nightstand. Don’t open my desk drawer or you’ll find my secret hiding spot for more. It’s a long-standing obsession that I don’t want to change. If you really like to have fun, you can order these nose pencil sharpeners from Amazon or check out these free printable valentines – I Pick You.
3 – Hot Tea or Coffee
I go through a lot of coffee mugs each day. The funny thing is that I don’t own a working coffee maker but I do have a teapot. At home I drink a lot of hot tea, Lindsay’s Tea Jasmine Rose, being my absolute favorite but I also love Joy Jasmine Tea from H-E-B. If you’re outside of Texas, H-E-B is a well-loved grocery store here and I weep for you because you don’t have one.
When I leave my house, I usually get a tall latte with two raw sugars. That’s about the only coffee I drink but I love it.
4 – Birkenstocks
I know.. I know.. I thought I was frugal! I am but after years of horrible knee and ankle issues, I finally broke down and bought a pair of Birkenstocks. I wore them plain out and just bought another pair this fall. I really think they have greatly helped some joint issues that I have so the price is worth it. If you struggle with joint issues, you might want to consider trying a pair for yourself.
I have this exact pair in black and brown.
If you struggle with knee / ankle issues, I’ve also found that Brooks Running Shoes help me a lot. (Also pricey but cheaper than surgery.)
5 – Flowers
I almost wrote roses because it’s a given but honestly, I love all flowers. My husband teases how I have to stop to smell the flowers at the grocery store but it’s just what makes me happy.
This year as I’ve struggled with severe depression, I’ve started painting flowers. I am constantly painting all kinds of flowers. I did a painting the other day that did not have a flower in it and my daughter commented that it didn’t look like something I painted. The easiest way to see what I’m painting lately is by following me on Instagram (@ClumsyCrafter).
Flowers just bring me joy whether they’re real, painted, a picture or just the scent. I just love them.
Hopefully, that helps you get to know a little bit more about who I am, the person behind this blog.
