5 Uses for Coconut Oil
January is time to look back on the previous year and set new goals for the upcoming months. We set resolutions to lose weight, to give back more, to spend more time with family and so on. This year I didn’t set a resolution – I gave myself a challenge. For 30 days I was going to try to make our home more eco-friendly and to live a more natural lifestyle. I had been mulling over living a more natural life and had been doing research along the way. I started with a few simple changes but the more I research and the more things we change around the house the bigger of an impact it is making in our lives.
For example, did you know that I have replaced almost all of my bathroom products with coconut oil? Its true! I use coconut oil as a body wash, scrub and lotion now. I’ve ever created my own homemade beauty products for all them.
Whipped body butter – One ingredient and you have a luxurious body lotion. I use it a few times a week and it really helps with my dry skin and psoriasis.
Whipped lavender body scrub – This one is similar to the body butter but the added sugar exfoliates during your shower and leaves your skin so smooth after.
Whipped body wash – I use this on my kiddos because its all natural and very mild. I use it wash their hair and their bodies. My daughter has curly hair like me and her curls turn into ringlets after we use this.
I’ve also ditched my regular shampoo and conditioner for coconut oil, baking soda and apple cider vinegar. Sounds odd, right? It was a jump for me to give up my products but my “no poo” shampoo (as its called) its so much better for my hair and my body. You can read about how I ditched my commercial products in my post called “No Poo Shampoo”. Besides getting rid of most of our bathroom products I have also created my own homemade laundry soap and started using “unpaper” towels in the kitchen. The month is almost over and I still have a few natural living ideas to share on my site. Things like natural Swiffer refills, eliminating processed foods in the kitchen and uses for essential oils. I would love for you join me on my journey to becoming more eco-friendly! You can see the natural living series here or follow along on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Google+.
