And then… let’s introduce Sunday…..
You see there’s this saying in Texas that goes, “If you don’t like the weather in Texas, wait 5 minutes and it will change”. Never before had I seen the weather change like it did overnight on Saturday.
We went to be on Saturday aware that there was the possibility of a little bit of sleet / snow Sunday evening because of a cold front that was moving in. I was not prepared for my Mother-in-law to wake me up early on Sunday morning to tell me that if I was going to go to my dad’s house to spend Sunday night with him I better get going because it was 28 degrees and the temperature was falling.
Saturday was 80 degrees. Sunday started off at 28 degrees but then it got lower.
It did get down that night to 12 degrees with the wind chill of -1 degree. I’ve lived in Texas my entire life and have never experienced temperatures so cold. Brrr!! I actually did have to stop at Walmart to get the kids some heavier clothes. I found all the winter clothes in the clearance bin. This is March! Texas should be hot by now.
But here’s the truth about kids from Texas; they think anything white is snow and it’s all SO exciting.
Even if they throw a snowball at you which is actually tiny sharp shards of ice (because TX gets sleet, not snow). It’s still fun for them and it’s something they’ll remember and talk about for years. Yes, years.
But you see all that white? It’s not snow. It’s ice. It’s extremely slippery ice which I couldn’t drive on. The driveway was a solid block of ice and so were all the roads.
However we took the chance during a warm ray of sunshine and headed out of Dallas and towards the warmth of Houston. It took us 7 hours to get home but we made it, away from the crazy ice of DFW and back to sunny warm Houston.
Until we woke up the next day in Houston to this….
It’s following me. At this point I’m loosing hope of ever being warm again.
