Many years ago when I had a lot more sleep and two less children I started a little blog known as Clumsy Crafter. One of the first tutorials I ever did was a simple How to Make Marzipan Pumpkins. The pictures on that post are old and dark. The grammar and spelling errors are interesting. So today since I'm holding on tight to fall and Thanksgiving when everyone else is running full force towards Christmas, I'd like to once again try to show you how to make marzipan pumpkins. These are the perfect fall decoration to top cupcakes with. They're easy and really hard to mess … [Read more...]
Fall Hoop Wreath – Let’s Make Some Fall Decor!
A few days ago, I took my Instagram followers on a little "get crafty with me" tour through our local Michaels Arts and Crafts store. During that time I walked the store and showed them things that I loved and how I would use them. I don't know why anyone let me walk into the floral section but I fell in love with the perfect flowers for a DIY Modern Fall Wreath. Here's the kicker - I didn't buy the flowers that day. I went home and thought about them so much that I went back the next day and got them. You might think I have enough hoop wreaths already since I have the Easy tulip hoop … [Read more...]

My Favorite Wreath – The DIY Fall Hoop Wreath
Fall is almost here. Or at least I'm going to keep telling myself that as a bathe myself in cool water and dream of the days when I don't have to take multiple showers a day. At the end of July I walked into the craft store and saw the aisles teeming with pumpkins and autumn colors and almost wanted to turn and walk back out. "It's summer!" I cried. Fast forward one week, ONE WEEK, later to the first of August when I walked back into that craft store and thought to myself, "oh yes, it's almost fall." What a difference a week makes. August in Texas is hot and even though it's not … [Read more...]

Free Fall Cut File – You Had Me at Pumpkin Spice
Last month a news flash bleeped across my phone screen. Pumpkin Spice was coming back on August 28th. Instantly I felt the temperature drop 20 degrees and I pulled on a cardigan and some boots. OK, so that's not entirely true because I live in South Texas. We only wear boots to the rodeo and anything with more than 3/4 of a sleeve stays in the back of the closet until December. Fall clothing for us here in Houston is whatever we find on the summer clearance racks because stores with corporate headquarters north of here don't understand that we don't need wool sweaters. If you wore … [Read more...]

I love fall. The colors are vibrant and fun, the air smells like cinnamon and nutmeg and the best part are the pumpkins. I would say the cooler weather plays a part in it too, but I live in Houston, so that would be a lie. However, last summer while I was touring The Pioneer Woman's lodge - yes... yes.. THAT lodge - I saw adorable wildflower painted craft pumpkins chilling in her supply closet and I fell in love with them. Here's the pumpkins that were at the Pioneer Woman's Lodge: Cute right? And yes, that's a Mackenzie-Child's cake plate just hanging out next to them as if I wouldn't drool … [Read more...]
DIY Tie-Dye Face Masks
Friends... if you would have asked me a little over ten years ago when I started this blog what I thought I would be making ten years from now, I would have never in my life said tie-dye face masks. Yet, here we are in 2020 and we are in a world that we never thought we would be in. Right? This post contains affiliate links. At first, when we needed face masks, I just grabbed my huge stack of cloth cast-offs and made some that would do the job. I didn't care if they were cute or ones we actually wanted to wear. Honestly, I thought we might need them for 2-3 weeks tops. Now they're … [Read more...]
5 Things That I Have Loved During Quarantine
The news headlines this week read that Houston is the new epicenter of the Corona Virus. Hey... guess where I live? Yup. Houston. So after months of hiding in our home under quarantine, we gingerly tip-toed out for about two weeks before racing back in to stay for a while. It's easy to joke about quarantine and the effects of this virus but friends.... this is hard. We got a touch of life again, and then it ended. My two oldest kids were back in swim practice for two weeks before it was suspended. My youngest went back to her Sunday School class for two weeks before we decided it's safer … [Read more...]

How to Make Watermelon Prints Using Sponges!
Watermelon is one of those things that just screams summer. It's one of my greatest memories of summers growing up. In fact growing up I had a sponge painted watermelon shirt just like this one that my mom made for me. The 90's are coming back, so why not bring back painting with sponges? So the other day I decided to bring back the 90's and make my daughter a watermelon shirt using sponges. If you add penny loafers, dorkier pants, geeky glasses and 5" tall bangs, this picture could have been me 25 years ago. (BTW.... OUCH! It literally hurt today when I was doing the math … [Read more...]
