Something has always drawn me to Maya Angelou. Her voice mixed with her words were just full of astonishing beauty. One of my favorite quotes by her is “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud”. It’s a call to encourage others.
You might not succeed to be the rainbow in their cloud but at least you tried. They will always remember that you tried, that you reached out.
There’s many points that I disagree with her on. There’s things that she fought for, such as feminism, that I don’t agree with (sorry – I’m a hard core conservative). But there’s one thing I agree with her on without a doubt – acknowledging that we are all created by God and should give others respect.
One of my favorite bible verses that I need to recite to myself daily, if not minute by minute, says that we should be slow to anger and slow to speak (James 1:19). When you watched Maya Angelou whether it was an interview or a reading of a poem, those are the two traits that clung to her like glue.
Her words were slow and filled with encouragement. She wasn’t afraid to stand up and proclaim her strength and assurance but she spoke words full of wisdom and thought.
I wish more than anything that I could follow her in that way. Rather than speaking quickly in wrath, I would sit back and think quietly and speak only when those thoughts came into line with my beliefs. She was an amazing woman that accomplished amazing feats in her life.
So today I want to honor her by giving you this free Maya Angelou printable quote which you can hang in your house as a reminder to encourage others.
Print it out and put it where you can see it daily. Or you can put it as the wallpaper on your phone or tablet.
Use it as your wish as long as you don’t resell it (for personal use only).
But most importantly be the rainbow in someone’s cloud.
