Birthday and Breast Cancer Awareness
One thing is for certain. I am loved.
For the past few years I’ve always joked that my birthday should be a birthday week and not just one day. However the beginning of last week was long and tiresome and was not celebratory in any way. Friday during the morning and early afternoon were just regular, the same stuff I do every single day. Then I found a box of chocolate covered strawberries on my front step and Damion arrived home with flowers. Then Damion treated me to the nicest night we’ve had as a family in a long time. Our town has an adorable little town square and I just wanted to spend the night on it. So we went to dinner and then walked across the street to a paint your own pottery place. The girls and I each picked out something to paint and Damion was the assistant to Princess Newbie. Dinner wasn’t what Damion would have chosen and I know the paint your own pottery place probably added up to be somewhat pricey but I never saw a bill or amount, he took care of it without mentioning it. We were hoping to later walk next door to the cupcake shop but it was closed so we settled on meeting a friend for ice cream.
It was a great night.
The real surprise happened the next morning Damion let me sleep in and he got up with the girls. I didn’t even realize anyone else was up. Then he didn’t ask me to do anything around the house or make any meals, he just kept telling me that it was my birthday weekend. Saturday was a crazy day for us but another great one as we finally found those elusive cupcakes and made some new friends. That night Damion watched a romantic comedy with me, in fact he even suggested it. Now that is love.
Today we got up, skipped church (shhh), and went furniture shopping where we finally gave our fully grown up legs a try and bought a formal dinning room table. I’ve known for awhile that I’m a grown up but turning 31 on Friday and then buying a formal dining room table today just made it official. We finished off the day with an early dinner at one of our favorite places and then a birthday party for a cute 4 year old little man.
The entire weekend Damion loved on me and gave my wishes the top priority. It’s something that I dont’ deserve but he gave willingly. It was an amazing birthday weekend.
The sad truth to the world is that no matter how great my birthday weekend was there are women all over that had a really rough weekend. These women are those who are struggling with breast cancer or loosing someone the love to the disease right now. Contrary to what some believe, men can also be stricken with breast cancer. It’s a very hard road that we all need to support. Really we should support anyone dealing with cancer or a loss due to cancer such as our friend Laura who lost her husband this year. She’s decided to kick cancer’s butt and has formed a foundation to help raise money to find a cure against cancer.
It strikes deep to my heart since my grandfather has had a constant struggle with cancer for the past eight years.
Little by little we can help defeat this disease and give people more happy birthdays.
The Houston Aeros Hockey Team will be hosting a special night on March 11th dedicated to raising awareness to Breast Cancer. A portion of every ticket sold will go to the Young Survivors Coalition, a silent Auction will be held, and pink Tshirts will be sold for $10 with all benefits going to YSC.
The most amazing part, in my opinion is that breast cancer survivors will be given 4 free tickets. This is what community and support is all about and I applaud the Aeros for doing this.
If you are interested in going to the Houston Aeros game on March 11th at 5:05pm you can go to their website to purchase tickets or call the phone number listed on the flyer below. If you purchase online and use the promo code: pink12 you will be given a discount on your purchase price. Some tickets are as low at $10.
Thanks to the Aeros, my family and I will be attending the game. This will be our first hockey game and I am thrilled to be able to go on a night that will support those fighting against breast cancer.
If you are in the Houston area, please consider going and having fun while supporting a great cause.
