Boring Shoe Redo

Last year Damion bought me sparkly silver converse shoes for our anniversary. It’s all I wanted since I have a love of fun, funky shoes. They were great for a year but then they got dirty and dull. All the sparkle and shine had went away, it was kinda sad. So I decided to redo them. Do you have any old lifeless shoes that you want to make shine like the top of the empire state building. (name that movie) I’ve also fixed the girls glitter shoes sold at target the same way when the girls wear a spot bald. First you’ll need Mod Podge and glitter.

I used the really fine Martha Stewart glitter for my shoes but I have used the chunkier cheap glitter when I was repairing the girls shoes. I think both work fine. Now using a paintbrush, paint a thin layer of Mod Podge over small parts of the shoe.

If you have any thick puddles then you will get a clump of glitter which might possibly look like you have huge warts all over your foot when you are wearing your shoes. I don’t want to give you a complex….so just use a tad. Before it dries, sprinkle with the glitter.

Once you have the entire shoe done, let it dry completely and then cover it with clear varnish. I used two coats of varnish and it has worked well for me. If you see any spots over time that are wearing away, just patch that spot using the same process and cover with varnish again.

I added some teal accents to my shoes because I’m the epitome of unexpected. Now you can go out and shine. Old women have their gold shoes and I have my glitter shoes. Baby steps, it’s called baby steps.

  7. Okay, dumb question here … Is there such a thing as spray varnish, or will I need the paint-on kind? My daughter wears her church shoes all the time, and they’re desperately in need of a glitter makeover. 🙂

  13. Hey, I’ve did this with a pair of shoes and I have cracks and large chuncks (mostly by where the shose bends) pill up. I’m thinking I may of had my glitter to thinkly layered on. Have you had any thing like that happen to your shoes?
