Burlap Sunflowers

Hey y’all!  Its Kelley from the Grant life again.  The lovely Bobbie is stuck in Dallas because of the ice storm that hit, so I get to take over her blog for the day.  Although I’m sad she’s stuck out of town, I’m really excited to share this easy tutorial with y’all.  And I mean way easy.  I’m not a big time crafter like Bobbie, but even I was able to make these burlap sunflowers.  And not completely burn my fingertips off.  Aren’t they adorable?  So bright, happy and they never wilt!  And the best part is that you only need a few basic materials to make them.  I bet you even have some of them hanging around your house or craft room.  To make them I used:

• Yellow burlap [And YES!  They sell colored burlap!  I got mine at Hobby Lobby.]
• Dowel Rods
• Felt
• Stuffing [I stole mine from an old teddy bear.  Shhh.]
• Black Felt
• Buttons
• Hot Glue Gun
• Mason Jar Lids

I bought a yard of the yellow burlap and it was enough to make almost a dozen of these little sunflowers.  I think I even have some leftover.  To start, take your burlap and cut it into squares.  I used a square napkin as a template and cut it using Bobbie’s method on cutting burlap straight.  I think [think] they were about 4 inches by 4 inches. Next, I cut the black felt into smaller squares.  Take a small tuff of stuffing and your felt square and glue it to the solid part of the mason jar lid.  I added glue just around the edges since the square overlapped.  Then put the burlap behind on the opposite side of that lid and add glue to the inside of the open lid.  Press it together carefully.  Once that cooled, I added the buttons on top of the felt and the dowel rod in the back.  See?  Easy peasy yellow sunflower squeezy!  All you have to do now is find a pretty vase or new home for your sunflowers and your done!  I think these would be super cute for a baby shower or even at a wedding!  They were so easy to make and the materials were inexpensive too.  Which are the kind of projects I love!  I hope y’all enjoyed this tutorial!  If you get a chance I’d love for you to stop by the Grant life and see what we are cooking over there.  I like to share easy homemade recipes with simple ingredients most of the time.  Sometimes a story or two about my two preschoolers.
