Wednesday night was car night at Awanas. Awanas is simply kinda like a christian girl scouts but they learn scripture to get their badges and jewls. Every year our church hosts a car night for Awanas where the kids decorate a cardboard box to look like a car and then they have a drive in movie in the church gym. They also have a parade for the parents to see all the cars.
Some parents go all out to make cars that are simply amazing with their child. This year there was a UFO that actually lit up, a Flinstones car and a Bi-Plane all made from cardboard boxes. I really want our kids to make their own cars all by themselves though to teach them that creativity and let it be fully their project.
This year we took them to the dollar store and gave them each the same amount to buy supplies for their cars. We did help with the though process but left the design up to them.
They were so proud of their cars.
And I was so proud of them.
Princess Girly Girl even helped her little sister drive her car for a bit after it was all over.
Princess Newbie had made her own car but it lacked wheels and all the other car parts. She would not let me leave it at home so it went to church with us. She was trying to insist that she was going to take it into church until I told her that she was going to have to carry it. Then she went and put it back in the van.
There are awards for the best cars and neither girl won. One of them did get upset and I know it’s because she was so proud of her car but it was a good lesson about why we try hard regardless of the outcome. However she was crying and upset and I couldn’t get her to stop until I asked her if she would like it if I put a picture of her car on my blog. Then she smiled and said yes.
I’m not a perfect mom and sometimes I worry if the girls like the fact that I’m a blogger or if it’s going to be “uncool” when they get old enough to understand.
But for once I felt like no only was I proud of them, but they were proud of me.
I love those girls.
