Awhile back my husband and I visited the Lydon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, TX. After that one visit we were hooked and since then have decided to visit all the Presidential Libraries (don't worry - there's only 14). Even though we travel to the DFW area all the time and are always looking for things to do in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area, we have only recently made it to visit the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum on the SMU campus. (Now I know that you might have found this post while searching for information on the Bush 43 Library... but some of you are just … [Read more...]
Things to do in Oklahoma City – Exploring the Downtown Area!
Last summer we took a little trip to the mecca know as, "The Pioneer Woman's Lodge" and somewhere between the south Oklahoma border, playing in the famous Oklahoma waterfalls at Chickasaw National Reserve, marveling at the powerful windmills dotting the prairies and Arbuckle Mountain Ranges and the beauty of it all, I fell in love with visiting Oklahoma. That's why this spring break when we were looking for things to do, we decided to take a trip back to Oklahoma. You might have read my earlier post about the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Lawton, Oklahoma. That was the very … [Read more...]
Trip to Oklahoma – You’re Gonna Want to Go
Oklahoma gets a bad rap. I mentioned to my friends on Facebook that we were heading to Oklahoma for spring break and asked what the best things to do were in Oklahoma. Real answers included: fly over it drive back to Texas I have had one semi bad experience in Oklahoma but that was just the year that our church decided to go somewhere closer for summer youth camp and we wound up at a really old camp in Oklahoma during a heat wave. It wasn't a great tip. But because of that one bad experience, I had pretty much stayed away from it. Then something wonderful happened, … [Read more...]

Many people ask, "what is there to do in Galveston, TX besides going to the beach?". When you think of Galveston, the beach is what you think of. Sit down, buckle up and let's take a little Texas style road trip to Galveston, TX. There's two things I love in life: One is a gorgeous view and the other is learning about history. Maybe it's because I was born on Texas Independence Day or maybe it has something to do with the fact … [Read more...]
Visiting The Pioneer Woman’s Lodge – Also Known As That Time I Fan Girled It.
Like any good Pioneer Woman fan, I've always wanted to visit her ranch in Oklahoma. I'd googled the route from Houston to Pawhuska so many times that Google Maps would just laugh at me. You hear "Texas to Oklahoma" and think it must be a quick easy drive since we're neighboring states but then your former friend Google Maps points out that it's 8.5 hours and you melt a little on the inside. My husband has spent the past three years trying to figure out how to get us all to Disney World again, I've spent the last few trying to figure out how to get time to get us all to Pawhuska. The … [Read more...]
Easier Car Trips with Kids – Texas Style
As always, this is my true opinion or I wouldn't share it. This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx.com on behalf of Tree Top but my daughter is over the moon about it. I'm a Texas girl and plan to always be one. I love this state and all that it offers but sometimes when you want to travel to a different city in Texas, it can be quite a long trip. That's why early on we worked hard on perfecting the perfect way to travel in a car with kids. Sometimes when people outside of Texas hears we're going to Dallas to visit family, they think it means a 1-2 hour trip. But if you're … [Read more...]
Things To Do In Houston: Levy Park
Many of you know that I live in Houston and I love it. When I first moved here 14 years ago I hated it with a passion and couldn't wait for the day that we got to move back to small town life. But as the years have passed I've found myself falling head over heels for this city and the many things that Houston has to offer. What can you do in Houston? Where should you visit in Houston? What is there to do on a normal day here in the Space City? Let me help you with one of those answers: Levy Park. Many months ago my friend, Big Kid Small City, posted about the opening … [Read more...]
Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library Visit – Austin, TX
This fall my husband and I decided to make a quick trip to Austin, TX to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. We've chosen to spend several anniversaries there because there is so many fun things to do in Austin. This time however we decided to do something we have never done and honestly thought might be a little boring but we were there so what would it hurt to check it out? We ventured out to visit the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library on the University of Texas Campus. Now before you click away or drift off to sleep thinking that it's not very interesting - … [Read more...]
Sheldon Lake State Park – A State Park in Houston, TX
Houston pretty much has everything. You can find any type of cuisine, crazy art cars, fancy museums and quirky museums, quiet sleepy subdivisions and very tall high rises that you can feel sway in the wind. But did you know that Houston has a state park? Sheldon Lake State Park is a state park in Houston, TX. It's hidden in the far east side of Houston where the developments haven't quite reached yet. I first heard about it months ago (after living here for 12 years) while looking for a good place to go fishing in Houston. Every web page I found on Sheldon Lake … [Read more...]
Two Steppin’ Adventure
This week the girls and I (sans Mr. Byrd) loaded up and hit the road to visit family in the Dallas- Ft. Worth area. I love to drive and explore and I'm hoping that if I drag my kids off on my adventures enough than one day they might just choose to do the same. The real surprise of the week was that I actually left my house on time Friday morning and we made it to Fort Worth with about an hour to spare before my Mother-in-law would be home from work. What to do when you have an hour to spare? Well for starters you can always get lost in downtown Ft. Worth. Then while you're … [Read more...]
Tips for Visiting Aquatica
Two years ago I was able to visit Sea World San Antonio for the first time ever. As an avid animal lover I had always wanted to go but just never got that chance. At that time Sea World was working on their new water park and I was so excited to see what they could do with it since Sea World itself is so amazing. A few weeks ago we were finally able to check out the water park inside Sea World San Antonio and I thought today I would share a few tips for visiting Aquatica. First of all, check out this post for Visiting Sea World San Antoni0. Many of those tips and tricks still … [Read more...]
Aransas Pass Vacation
Things looked different for the Byrd family last week. In case you didn't notice there wasn't a Friday post (and why didn't you notice??). Plus there was no traffic, no cleaning to do and no mosquitos waiting to eat us alive the second we walked out the door. We snuck out of town and headed a few hours down the Texas coast to Port of Aransas to spend some time on the beach. And did we ever spend time on the beach! There were sand castles built, naps taken, books read and much much more all while sitting in the sand. It was perfect and needed. Without a doubt, we needed a … [Read more...]
