Every now and then I get really excited about an exciting craft project. I’ve seen a lot of DIY bowls on Pinterest that you make by combining glue or Mod Podge and glitter or confetti. I’ve wanted to make one for years. Who wouldn’t?
Show me anything made with glitter and I’m there. A fun craft that includes balloons, glitter and Mod Podge? YES!
Nooooo. Sadly, DIY Glitter bowls was one of the worst craft fails I’ve had in a long time.

I tried two different methods. One of the methods was what Pinterest and Youtube both said to do. This was the largest fail by far. The second method was a process that I came up with and honestly, the immediate results were good.
We actually had a few glitter bowl for a day. Then slowly the bowls started

The first method, the one suggested by every blogger and Youtuber that has tried it, is to mix a lot of glitter with Mod Podge until it forms a thick paste. Then you simply paint that onto the top of a balloon and several coats later you will have a gorgeous, fabulous, glitter bowl.
No. No you won’t.
It didn’t matter how thin I painted on the layers, every single time it dripped down the sides of the balloon so badly that there was nothing to salvage.
I don’t have a picture of it but the glitter dripped all the way down the sides of the glass so badly that I had to cut around the top edge of the glass to get it off.
It looks kinda cool but the edges are all starting to curl up.

The second way was more successful at first but the bowls are starting to curl up and fold up like tacos more and more each day.
Since dumping a ton of glitter into the Mod Podge didn’t work, I decided to reverse the process.
This time I painted a thick layer of Mod Podge onto the balloon and then sprinkled glitter on top.

I repeated this process for 4-5 layers. Honestly I liked the fact that I could mix glitters with this process and create gorgeous glitter combinations.
However I guess all good things has to come to an end at some time and these bowls have just bit the dust.

Honestly I’m just so disappointed. In my head I saw using them as cute little ring dishes or as decorations in my preteens bedroom. Now I’m just going to see them all hit the trash.
Oh well. I guess that just leaves me more glitter to make Glitter Necklaces or Glitter Striped Tote Bags.
One really great thing did come from this colossal craft fail.

Some people believe in making lemonade out of lemons. Personally
That cup now sits in a place of honor on my craft desk. I guess it wasn’t all a craft fail.
Oh my gosh your hilarious.
Thank you. 🙂
