Who doesn’t love a great party? Whether it’s for a holiday such as New Years or a DIY Birthday party, parties are fun. But, it’s not really a party unless you have the correct headwear right? (I mean, it’s not a wedding in England without a fascinator, so it’s not a party here without a hat.) Of
Let’s get this party started. (Sorry, I had to.)
You’ll need:
- Plain party hats from the Dollar Store
- Headbands from the Dollar Store
- tinsel or metallic gift filler from the Dollar Store
- Hot Glue
- Optional – noise makers or other objects with fringe you can use
I grabbed a package of noise makers for the party but then I wound up using some of the metallic fringe on the one of my hats and it worked great! You’ll see it below so keep reading.
Now since we want mini hats, cut an inch and a half off of the bottom of the plain ol’ boring hat. You can cut off more if you want it smaller. that’s up to you.
Next cut two small tabs and fold the tabs inwards. This is where you’ll put the hot glue to attach it to your headband. Use plenty of glue and hold the hat still to help the glue harden before your next step.
Now let’s add the fancy trim. Pull out a section or tinsel or metallic gift filler and organize it into a straight line. Put a thin line of hot glue around the bottom edge and push the line of tinsel into the glue, bunching it and twisting it as you go.
If you have strings that are falling down or areas that aren’t staying under control, put a dab of hot glue by them and push them into the glue.
Go all the way around the edge of the hat with the glue. When you’re done, trim away any loose edges or hanging pieces with scissors.
Let’s be honest, I love it just like that but we need to add a little more pizzaz. I’m from the south where you can never have too much glitter or glitz.
Once the bottom edge is done, make a small bundle of the tinsel and glue it in the top of the hat. I also used the fringe from
And then before you know it, your hat is done and you are ready to party.
I hope you all have a wonderful New Years. I’ll see you in 2019!
