This cranberry tea recipe is yummy and full of vitamins. It’ll warm you up and help heal any winter colds that you pick up from your kids (because that’s where they all come from). It’s the perfect warm drink to make and leave on the stove all day so you can refill your cup as you wish. Plus it will erase the smell of stinky kids and pets in your home as it simmers on the stovetop.
Fresh cranberries can be found at any grocery store from November until December. They are extremely affordable, usually coming up under a dollar for a 1lb. bag. However few people use them for making more than cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Cranberries are full of vitamin C and are great for urinary tract health. As queen of the kidney stones, I do anything I can to keep my kidneys healthy.
Now is the time to stock on on cranberries. You can throw the bag straight into the freezer and use them whenever you wish for muffins or even cranberry tea. In face you can even fill a freezer bag with cranberries and orange slices now so you can pull it out of the freezer and make cranberry tea even when cranberries are no longer in the store.
Cranberry tea is beyond easy to make. There’s some more intricate recipes online but I like simple. Life should be simple, especially when you have an army of people under 3 feet tall trying to take you down.
All you need is water, cranberries, orange slices, sugar and cinnamon.
Start by filling a large pot with 6 cups of water.
Add 1/2 lb. of cranberries, half an orange cut into slices, 2 cinnamon sticks and 3/4 cup sugar into the water.
Turn on the stove and let simmer on medium low for 30 minutes. Turn down the stove to low and let it steep until ready to serve.
That’s how easy this recipe is. You dump ingredients in a pot and then you wind up with a drink that can help nurse you through a cold or just be enjoyable on a chilly day.
Of course you can change it up a bit. Do you really love the taste of cranberries? Add more to the water. If you want it sweeter, add a bit more sugar or even try brown sugar.
If you have a sore throat use honey stirred into the cup when you serve it as a sweetener. They honey will coat your throat and make you feel better.
It’s really hard to mess this tea up. I have found that the longer it sits on the stove, the more the cranberries break down. If you leave it on the stove for longer than 3-4 hours you might want to strain it through a mesh strainer before serving to remove the cranberry pieces that have cooked for too long.
This is a great recipe that adults and kids alike will enjoy.
