Easy DIY Valentine’s Day Sign
Love is in the air because Valentine’s Day is near! So here’s a simple DIY Valentine’s Day sign that would be fun to make this weekend. However if you are jumping on this train a little late than the good news is that you can easily follow the same process but change the holiday by using another word, phrase or symbol other than love.
So are you ready to get crafty?
Step one is to find the shape you want to use either in wood or a wood / chipboard mdf product such as the one above. I found this one in the Valentine’s Day section in Hobby Lobby. *Here’s a similar heart from Amazon.com
The first step is to paint it your base color. I chose white but you can go crazy.
Now you’re going to paint stripes. I freehanded stripes and even guesstimated on the size of each stripe. Why? Because imperfection is my middle name and I have to stay true to myself. If you want perfect stripes, use painters tape to create even stripes.
After the stripes were dry I used a sanding block to distress them. Here’s a tip: sanding and distressing hides imperfections. So if you’re not a perfectionist, than distressing a project adds charm while hiding those lines that you didn’t get straight or even.
Once the stripes are dry and distressed (see how it hides the mistakes?) you can free hand paint a word such as love. If you’re freehand painting than I recommend going with something simple. If you want to do something more intricate, I recommend using the easy hand-lettering method.
Now using ModPodge or glue, carefully paint all the letters.
Evenly sprinkle glitter over the glue area and shake the sign back and forth to make sure all the areas are covered with glitter.
Shake off all the glitter. If you have any spots where the glue didn’t adhere, carefully paint those areas again with glue and then reapply glitter.
It looks good already but this was on our backdoor just wait till’ you see it on our front door.
The glitter is gorgeous in the sunlight. The color of the front door is still ugly but this easy DIY Valentine’s Day sign makes it kinda cute and sparkly.
I love easy projects and this one was right up there on the top of my list.
