This is a post that I originally published last year but it’s fun! And it’s a great last minute addition to your Memorial Day Barbecues. We might not have the hair or hired help of Martha Stewart but by golly we can make our friends think we have the skills of Martha Stewart. I hope you have a safe and fun holiday weekend.
Baby it’s hot outside… It’s too hot to bake but we still need fancy treats from time to time so today let’s talk about how to make Sprinkle Ice Cream Cones. They’re the perfect treat to serve at a 4th of July party or any summer get together. They just add that special touch while still being easy, which is what we all want when our pants are stuck to our legs like super glue from sweat.
There is a big shocker with today’s pictures though… my nails are done and not chipped. I just wanted to make sure that you knew it really was me and not some hand model standing in for me.
Once you get over that shock, lets get on with how to make this great summer treat.
What you need is Ice Cream Cones, Sprinkles, and chocolate morsels or almond bark will also work.
I was making 6 ice cream cones so I put 1/3 of the chocolate in a dry clean bowl and melted it in the microwave. I still had some chocolate left over that I dipped strawberries into so you could probably go with 1/4th of a bag of chocolate chips for 6 ice cream cones. Or if you have some left over just dig through your pantry until you can find more stuff to cover in chocolate.
Here’s the thing about melting chocolate… it it touches water it seizes up and turns into lumps. Make sure every thing is dry. Also don’t add regular food coloring because that has water in it.
To melt in the microwave, heat it for 1 minute and then stir well. Microwave for 10 seconds at a time after that, stirring well after each time, until it is melted all the way through.
Using a spoon, spread a thin layer of melted chocolate all along the top of the ice cream cone.
Prepare your sprinkles on a small plate and then just think happy thoughts. Sprinkles are so happy for some reason.
Now roll the ice cream cone in the sprinkles.
Isn’t that a thing of beauty? An Ice Cream Cone with chocolate and sprinkles, just waiting for a heaping dose of Ice Cream?
You’re not done quite yet. Now just place the finished cones in the freezer for a few minutes, less than 10 and let the chocolate harden.
Now You’re done! And ready to serve your amazing colorful sprinkle cones to everyone.
I know it livened up our party.
Or the dog’s party… depending how you want to look at it.
