Love is in the air. It’s also on the shelves and hanging on the walls in Valentine’s Day decorations. The good news is that this is a very fun and easy Valentine’s Day decoration craft project that you can easily make at home. Plus at the bottom of this post, I’m going to give you the free cut file for this LOVE heart.
One of the things that makes this project so simple is that once you have a few parts ready, you just put it together and it’s done! Who doesn’t love quick and easy Valentine’s Day projects like this?
Here’s the awesome thing – this would also be a really easy idea to turn into a craft that you can use for other purposes or seasons.
- Instead of the heart cut out, apply a vinyl monogram and fill the inside with dried rose buds.
- Put a fun quote on the outside for use in a kid’s playroom and fill with colorful pom-poms.
- As a wedding gift, put the wedding date and couple’s last name on the glass and fill it with rolled up money (they can open the back to remove the money and still have a cute decoration for their home).
There’s so many great ideas for this one simple project. But since it’s almost valentine’s day, lets go with a love them. If you do not have a vinyl cutter such as a Cricut, you can buy decals at the hobby store or many vinyl supply stores will cut out a design for you.
How to Make This Easy Valentine Decoration:
Buy a shadowbox. I found this 8X8 one at Hobby Lobby and used the 40% coupon, which brought it to about $7. I also chose one sheet of fun printed scrapbook paper while I was there. You will also need small wooden hearts, glue, and vinyl for this project.
Remove the back of the shadow box and trace around it on the paper. Cut out the paper to be the exact same size as the back of the frame. It’s important that you get the size very close. If you cut it too big, it won’t lay flat. If you cut it too small, you might be able to see the exposed edge through the shadowbox.
Once you have it cut to the right size, glue it directly to the back of your shadowbox. Set this part to the side and let it dry while you work on the next step.
Using your vinyl cutter, cut out the free LOVE heart cut file or use another design. I chose to make it pretty big where it would touch each side of the frame. This is up to you. Make it as big or as small as you like. In the picture above, it already has the transfer tape and is ready to go.
Clean the glass of your shadowbox well and then apply the vinyl sticker directly to it.
Your next step is done! Set it to the side and move on to the last step.
Easy right?
Now you just want to paint your wooden hearts. If the weather is pretty outside, the easiest thing would be to quickly spray paint them. However on this day it was gross outside and I had no desire to go out there. So I sloppily brushed paint on each side and set them down to dry.
Once all of your hearts are painted and dry, it’s time to assemble your shadowbox. Place the hearts inside of it and then gently put the back onto it.
Hang it on the wall or place it on a bookshelf.
So simple, so easy, so lovely. (It’s almost as easy as the DIY Heart Tote Bag.)
I love it and had a great time making this easy Valentine decoration.
