Handmade Gifts: Peg Dolls

I love peg dolls. There’s just something about their size combined with the simpleness of them that just calls to me. It’s easy to personalize peg dolls, make nativity peg dolls or even super hero peg dolls.  Out of all the handmade gifts that I have ever made, I think that Peg Dolls are one of the most enjoyable ones to make.   Another great thing about Peg Dolls is that they are great for any age to make. You can buy extra wooden doll blanks and set your kids down next to you to paint peg dolls.  The wooden blanks are inexpensive so it is easy to buy extra ones. You can find them online on Amazon.com or use coupons to buy them at a discount at Hobby Lobby.

  They can be as easy or as complex as you wish. The faces are usually just dots made using a toothpick or the end of a paintbrush and that will be the most detail that you have to paint.  You can add clothes such as the Peg Doll Nativity or just paint clothes on using blocks of color. 

 

There might even be cheeky streaker peg dolls.  We don’t judge around here, we just paint on the clothes and keep smiling. 

If your child already has peg dolls, why not make them a peg doll house? Just use a cigar box, scrapbook paper and modgepodge.  It will carry their peg dolls while providing a great play area.  This is the perfect toy to let them take to appointments with you because it will keep them entertained until it’s time to go. Then you just close the lid and carry it out, all in one piece.  It is a great handmade gift for little girls. If you wanted to make one for little boys, just make a cityscape and give them superhero peg dolls.
