How to Make Celery Print Roses

 If you haven’t figured it out, I like using vegetables to make prints.  This way though just takes the cake. Rather than trying to hand paint roses you just have to dig around in your vegetable drawer and get out the celery.  You can use celery to make easy rose prints that are gorgeous.   Plus if you read the Easy Heart Tote post than you’ll remember that I’m a bag hoarder. This weekend I went through my closet and gave away about 10 bags. Now there’s a hole in my heart that can only be filled with a new tote bag. Paint pretty roses on that tote bag and it’s the perfect sweet look to replace the other bags.  So how do you make it?  It’s so simple you’ll wanna slap yo momma. (ok don’t slap your mom, it’s not nice and it would get my kids grounded for a very long time). Maybe it’ll be so easy that you’ll want to hug your mom and then give her a Rose Tote Bag.  To start you’ll need a simple canvas tote bag that you can find at hobby stores, the end of the celery bunch, two shades of pink or red paint, green paint and a paintbrush.  (It was really cloudy out so some of the colors in these pictures were wonky – sorry, I was just trying to get it done.)  To start you want to get your paint ready. Put darker colors on the outside edge with a lighter color slightly mixed in the middle. This will give the rose a better depth. It’s a simple trick that will just bump it up a notch. Dip the celery in paint and then blot gently on a paper towel to remove any excess.

Place the celery straight down onto the tote bag and press gently. Make sure all the edges touch the tote bag. 

Gently lift the celery off the tote bag and you should have a simply rose print.   Here’s a tip: If the middle of the rose isn’t defined and is just a big blob, gently insert a pencil between the celery stalks in the middle and separate them. You have to be very careful and gently but it will make a big difference.   Now use your green paint and add leaves. They can be simple ovals or you can get more complex with several shades and shapes. It’s up to you. If you’re just not comfortable with this than you can always use potato prints to add leaves to the roses.  Don’t you love it? I do.  There’s something about roses that just get me every time.  And that’s all! It’s easy and simple. You can add more roses on the back of the bag when it’s dry or simple pink polka dots would be a great way to finish the bag.  I’m pinning this on my Clumsy Crafter Pinterest Board.
