I’m Calling It
Let’s just call this week a wash shall we?
It started out too cold to get out from under the blankets on the couch. We were in full hibernation mode for three days. Most of my plants in the backyard that live year round because of our tropical climate are now dead. My kids haven’t gone outside since Sunday because we live in South Texas and don’t have clothes for the crazy cold temperatures. Buying winter clothes for my kids is usually so easy. We go to the store and get them a pair of jeans, a few pairs of leggings and a hoodie. They add the leggings underneath their sun dresses and throw on the hoodie with flip flops and they’re ready for winter! But their usual winter wardrobe just wasn’t enough this week to keep us warm.
On the first day of warmth, Thursday, it rained non stop even while the sun was shinning. Everything is now wet and dead. Yard work to clean up the dead plants will be lovely. Warm, wet, muddy, humid….. ahhhh just like Houston usually is.
The only crafting I’ve done this week is to clean up some craft supplies in short bursts when I could escape from under the electric blanket.
Yesterday we took advantage of the warmth and rain and cleaned and organized upstairs. I actually unpacked the last box from when we moved two years ago. Don’t judge, it was just a box of craft supplies that I had shoved in the back of a closet. Then I thought it would be fun to rearrange some furniture in two rooms by myself with no strong men to help. Even my toes hurt afterwards.
Today though should be beautiful. We’re going to spend some time this morning with my in-laws who are passing through town and arrived late last night. The girls went to bed not knowing that when they woke up their grandparents would be there to see them. If you heard the shrieking and fits of joy early this morning, I’m sorry. Then we’re going to spend the afternoon outside getting rid of the pent up energy from the past few days. All we need are rain boots for the soggy ground and we’ll be off on an adventure.
This weekend I’ll cut down all my dead plants and hope they grow back. Then I’ll lay in the 70 degree weather and take mental pictures of the gloriousness of South Texas winters so that I can grin and bear the summer heat. Then I’ll get a chill because 70 degrees is cold to us hot weather people and run inside to hibernate some more.
So this week was a wash. We can all admit it.
Next week though, let’s make it legendary. I’ll bring the glue gun, you bring the paint.
