Life Lately at the Byrd House
Things have really changed here at the Byrd House this year. All of the sudden this house is 100% free of all things baby or dependent child and we have three girls who are pretty much self sufficient on a day to day basis. And did I mention that the word “teenager” is used freely by the one that’s not quite there yet but really wants to be?
In fact, as of this month, none of our bikes have training wheels on them anymore.
She rides her bike so much now that we’ve taken to jokingly (and lovingly) calling her Lance Armstrong.
She’s ready to ride at a moment’s notice.
She’s so independent now that she even cuts out her own rubber band pony tail holders.
The oldest two Byrd girls are too busy to pose for pictures lately. There are plenty of selfies on their ipods but we’ll just share this one with you instead. The Byrd girls in their natural environment….
Mr. Byrd is working on perfecting his mean look as he’s noticed boys looking at the oldest two twice in the past week. Boys. We’re entering a new territory but no worries, they’ll be eligible to date when they finish college (with their masters).
As summer is almost here, we’re back doing summer swim league which is a huge thing here in this area of Houston.
Every weekend until it’s so hot we melt, we will get up before the rooster and somehow stumble to the pool where all of the parents will huddle together and discuss coffee IV’s. We’ll cheer and support these girls as they get stronger and swim faster, or sometimes slower.
At this weekend’s swim meet, the littlest Byrd’s goggles filled with water when she jumped in for the 25 yard breaststroke. She sobbed the entire way down the pool and almost gave up but she didn’t. She made it all the way down the pool and finished the race.
And if you think life can’t get crazier, we found a duckling in our backyard last week. We live about a mile from the nearest pond and yet there was one duckling, just one trying to hide from our cat.
Through a neighborhood group on FB we found another baby wood duck two blocks away and reunited them. Then the next day we drove them across Houston to a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center because we’re crazy and love animals.
So that’s basically life lately. It’s nonstop and will be for another month until we are done with school for the summer and we can spend our days playing in the pool.
What have you been up to lately?
By the way, I’ve been hanging out on Facebook Life some lately. If you’re not following Clumsy Crafter on FB, do it so you don’t miss any tutorials on Facebook Life!
