There’s a new member to the Byrd family. Yesterday I took a little trip out of town, with the girls, to pick up a new puppy that we adopted from Texas Star Rescues. After a pretty sleepless night due to the smallest human Byrd, not the puppy, we wearily arrived home today to introduce Cooper to his new home.
All three of my sisters have now inquired why we needed a third dog when we already have a cat and two guinea pigs. I love animals and always have. But very sadly that’s not the only reason. My dog, Gershwin, who I got when I was a teenager is not doing well and I’m struggling with the decision that I need to make. Actually I’ve made the decision but going through with it is extremely hard right now. We did not bring this puppy home to replace Gershwin because no one can replace his hard headed stubborn nature that I love so much but we have another dog who has become very lonely in the last few weeks as Gershwin has gone more and more downhill. Gershwin now sleeps 95% of the day, if not more, and Snoopy just stands at the back window when he’s outside begging to come in and when he’s inside he is like glue to our feet. He needed a friend and I need a boost of joy in the next two weeks as I make the vet appointment for Gershwin and deal with letting my dear friend go on to a place where he’s not struggling anymore.
Cooper is a super sweet dog that fits our weird dog look and is extremely gentle with our kids. I am so grateful that we were able to bring him into our family and I can’t wait to see how he melds with our family.
Enough sadness though!! Of course I took 500 pictures today and thought I would share a few with you;
Cooper is an approximately 3-4 month old daschund with a crazy coat and green eyes.
He loves our kids and they already love him greatly. I couldn’t have asked to find a better rescue dog in how he handles kids.
Snoopy actually played today, for the first time in a year! They played so hard this afternoon and are both crashed out right now.
The best part is that my hunting side of the family will love him since he always has his camouflage on!
I can’t wait to see how he grows and changes, it’s a great start so far.
