This weekend was kinda wet but only sporadically with no warning whatsoever. Saturday I was outside picking up a few things when the bottom just let out. Ten seconds later three little girls in raincoats all appeared, ready to play in the rain.
And they played non stop. Filling up their raincoat pockets from rain coming off the roof, jumping in puddles and zooming their old scooters through the mini lakes that form on our old driveaway.
And they had an amazing time, enjoying a summer rainstorm on a hot day when even the rain couldn’t cool you down too much.
Then on Sunday afternoon Mr. Byrd asked me to help him in the yard with some tree and shrub trimming. It was hotter than hot and we were both drenched in sweat.
I always turn beet red when I get hot so I know that I was a sight to see. We had a huge pile of cut tree limbs and shrubs laying spread across our front yard when we first saw the dark clouds. We called the girls out to help us pick them up and tried to hurry but it was no match for us.
As the first few drops lightly fell, Mr. Byrd said “A little rain will feel good, let’s keep going”. So we kept picking up the branches in the rain, which was light and kinda nice. Then slowly it started to rain harder and harder. The girls dropped the limbs and leaves and just started to play, once again.
They were drenched.
They weren’t the only ones. Mr. Byrd kept telling me that we were already wet so we just needed to get it done and finish getting everything picked up. We worked in the pouring rain, laughing as we discussed what the neighbors would say about us now. I really think most of our neighbors already question our sanity but here we were having a front yard DIY wet tshirt contest in the pour rain while trying to fit big branches into smaller trash bags.
And about the time that we were done the sun came out and slowly the rain stopped.
But the rain was a welcome gift on a very hot day when my face couldn’t have gotten any redder and when our neighbors needed to question our sanity. We don’t want them getting too comfortable.
Overall we had one more weekend that hopefully our kids will cherish and remember. How was your weekend?
