Without a doubt the winter blues had me in it’s grip the past few weeks.
This entire winter has been hard. Winter in Houston usually involves a lot of rain with mild days mixed in with a few cold ones. This year it’s just been cold and gray the entire winter. The sun has been rare and on the days that the sun is out, it’s too cold to go outside with our underprepared winter wardrobe.
Our families aren’t in Houston and traveling to see them has been impossible with the ice storms and sleet that the northern area of Texas has had this year. Slowly but surely homesickness is settling in.
My grandparents have been having a horrible past few months and separated due to hospital stays for months now. To top of the winter blues, we lost Damion’s grandmother a few weeks ago and didn’t make it to the funeral due to ice storms.
Some days were have been so cold that we’ve had no choice but to cuddle on the couch under blankets for most of the day while the house slowly got more cluttered and disorganized. At least the clouds kept the sun from illuminating all the dirt that was accumulating.
Life has just been gray if not even darker at times.
Slowly but surely the gray is leaving.
This weekend Houston was beautiful. The sun was at attention with a cool breeze flowing non-stop. It was heavenly. Friday my kids put on their swimsuits, goggles and at one point swim caps and made themselves a mini water park in the backyard. I think it was their way to tell Winter that it’s reign was done.
Saturday we started cleaning out the closets, rooms and drawers full of things that were thrown in there and the door shut. There’s so much more to do that it would drive me crazy if I thought about it but day by day we’ll get it under control again.
Sunday we rested and played in the warmer air. I spent the afternoon working on a new Deco Mesh Wreath for my sister full of sunflowers.
I have to get the wreath done because this weekend I’m hitting the road with the girls. The first stop will be to see my grandparents. Then it’ll be on to see my sisters, my dad and my in-laws.
Before then there’s cardboard cars to build and a birthday boy to celebrate.
It’s going to be a good week.
Without a doubt – the sun is kicking winter’s butt. The joy and life of Spring is on it’s way.
