Texas Independence Day

Why I love Texas; 1. One word. Sweet Tea. Ok so that’s two but you get the point. 2. Everything is bigger and better in Texas, even my rear end but that’s a different story for a different day. 3. Cowboys. Ok so honestly I’m not into cowboys. Geeky chic of the IT crowd is my man of choice but I do have friends that are into that country music listening, wrangler wearing crowd and I just want to make them happy. 4. Texans have a serious gift in our ability to brag about all things Texas. Take for instance the Alamo. Yeah, there was only one and where was it? Texas. boo-yah. 5. Drunk Armadillos. Only in Texas will you see a armadillo by the side of the road holding a beer. Now that’s classy. 6. The Sam Houston Statue. How many states have a gigantic statue of their former leader? Texas does and it’s awesome. 7. What other state can you go from the desert to the plains, from the plains to the piney woods, from the piney woods to the hill country, and from the hill country to the beach all while saying “yee haw”? 8. The rodeos. It’s true, they’re probably more of a commercial show than rustic rodeos of the midwest but it’s the one time of year when you have an excuse to wear boots and bandanas every day. Just don’t wear them while walking into a bar and yelling, “stick um’ up!” and you’ll be fine. 9. The best people are born in Texas. Lady Bird Johnson, Dwight D. Eisenhowser, Jim Parsons, Patrick Swayze, Trey Crawford, and Bobbie Byrd were all born in Texas. Geniuses, all of them.  Some of them are even awesome enough to be born on Texas Independence day which is March 2nd. Happy birthday Texas! Happy Birthday Trey. Oh. and it’s my birthday too. I’m older than Sam Houston (the statue).
