Honestly we think back to the really great times in our life and sometimes it’s hard not to wish for that time back.
Maybe it’s the memory of your first date that makes you smile because of the pure awkwardness that was involved. For anyone with an older child we think back to the years that they were babies and long to swaddle them once again and sing songs to them (apparently ten year olds are too cool to be swaddled). How quickly we forget the sleep deprived state that we lived in for years, covered in mystery liquids that smelled almost as bad as our hair. We just want one more chance to do it again.
One depressing side to getting older is simply that we loose people that are important to us. What wouldn’t we give to sit down to one more meal made by our grandmother and just spend time with her?
And yet we’re supposed to embrace the saying “the best is yet to come”?
But you know what? It is.
Life goes on and evolves and eventually we get to watch our daughters go on their first awkward date with a boy who is bumbling around, just trying so hard to get it right. We’ll sit back and laugh and add that memory onto our stack of already overflowing tower of moments in our life that we treasure.
Later we’ll add to that stack getting to see other babies grow that belong to people we love and hopefully one day serving them our grandmothers famous spaghetti sauce at our own table.
Life is sweet. No matter where the past year has taken you, you can know that the best is yet to come.
So today, as we finish out 2015, let us embrace 2016 with hope and joy.
