The Container Store For Crafters

There is one huge problem with having a creative mind, it lacks space (and understanding) for organization. One of my main problems with organization is that since I see things visually, I can’t just go to any store and buy something to organize and then make it fit the space. I have to make the space pretty and then find the exact size container that has the exact number of dividers and drawers or I just give up and it never gets organized.  There have been times that I have gone to 5 stores looking for one box and never found it. Then one day last week I finally went to the raved about The Container Store in Houston and I think I have found my new crush. By the way, this is not a sponsored post and they did not pay me to say these things. They have never heard of me, I just was amazed by the store and wanted to share it with you guys.  The Container Store has a cult following and I could never figure out why. I had never been in it but why would people get all worked up about visiting a store full of containers? Anthropologie is full of floral motifs and whimsical animals so that cult following I understand. Hobby Lobby appears in my dreams way too much but containers? Why? So this week when I got tired of looking at our battered plastic green trashcan that has been around since Mr. Byrd’s bachelor days I decided to stop in The Container Store because surely they would have a trashcan for us.  And the second I walked in the door I understood. There to the right was all different shapes and sizes of the organizational boxes I have been looking for  and they were affordable! Before I could get too excited of course I heard, “Mom, I have to go to the bathroom”.  It turns out that the bathroom is right by the OFFICE SUPPLIES SECTION!! (Sorry for the caps but I love office supplies.)  They had a great selection and it was almost painful to keep walking past the office supplies into the restroom. Of course the restrooms were awesome and kid friendly with a pull down step stool from under the sink. Of course.  We spent over an hour in the store looking at every little thing. The girls all picked out things they needed for their bedroom including a desk for coloring but they don’t have a job so they didn’t get anything. (I’m just kidding about the job thing. I am taking notes of things they liked and will think about it after I make a space for it because that’s how I work.) Then we reached the huge trashcan section. And of course it was better than christmas because my three young girls could step on every single foot pedal there was and it was magical to them.  One of the employees walked by and said, “who knew trashcans could be so much fun?”. I’m pretty sure The Container Store knew.  The best part of the day was I found a huge glass jar to store rice in on our countertop and it was cheap. $12 was way less than I had found at other places for the same thing and it actually seems to be thicker and better quality. I’m planning to glass etch the word “rice” on the side of it and add a colorful scoop for the rice and it will be handy, useful and amazing.  So why did I write this huge thing about The Container Store? Because I really enjoyed it and honestly it is extremely useful as a crafter. We are the masters of little tiny things. Buttons, string, glitter, washi tape and glue sticks all need to be organized so we can find them when we need them. And all crafters know that is hard to organize our craft hoards and sort those items out. So maybe next time you’re around The Container Store you should stop in and see what you can use in your own craftiness.  I think The Container Store could definitely be one way to help you save money when crafting.   Have you been to The Container Store?
