It’s Tuesday. The day before Christmas Eve.
Sigh. The list of things left to do before Christmas is long my friends. So very very long.
The past few weeks have been spent making a few gifts such as these wire wrapped necklaces which were so much fun. Maybe a tutorial will show up soon.
A few people will also be getting wood burned gifts since I’ve been working hard to improve my wood burning skills.
When we haven’t been making gifts, we’ve been trying to find any free time to get out and shop for gifts.
They have an unnatural love for Gander Mountain, an outdoor / hunting store.
The past week or so has been fun. Having Mr. Byrd finally home from a crazy work travel schedule has been great. The weather in Houston is always so beautiful in December and we have been making the most of the 60 / 70 degree days.
Sadly we did have a very sad event as we lost our beloved guinea pig, Joshua, on Saturday. We gave him to the girls as their Christmas gift 4 years ago. He had a great spirit and was so extremely gentle. Whenever we opened the refrigerator we would head squeaks coming from his cage, his own way of begging for a carrot or apple. Lately there had been no squeaks and he was loosing weight so we had an idea it was coming. He lived a full life and a great life. But it was still hard to find him passed away on Saturday.
One of our girls has a heart larger than Texas and did not take the news well. Her sister came to tell us that she was laying on her bed sobbing with a growing pile of tissues beside her. We know that she needs to bury her pet in order to completely grieve him but it was pouring and flooding that day so there was so way we could have done it immediately. Unfortunately our only option was to wrap him and up and place him in the freezer until the ground dries up.
Hopefully my mother-in-law won’t try to defrost him for dinner like she did with the placenta we had in our freezer after one of our home births.
Now though we have on full day left before Christmas Eve and it’s time to put the sad behind us. There’s cookies to bake, Santa Bread to make for our neighbors and a lot of cleaning to do before my in-laws arrive. There’s a cat to keep out of the Christmas Tree and christmas carols to butcher. Plus I have to brave the grocery store tomorrow. Oy vey.
It’s on people.. I repeat… the Christmas countdown is on! What’s on your list for the next 24-48 hours?
