For the past few years we have been going to see the Trail Riders come into Houston for the Rodeo. The Trail Riders are groups of cowboys complete with covered wagons that spend weeks traveling by horseback from across Texas to Houston to officially kick off the Houston Rodeo with the Houston Rodeo Parade. It’s fun and quite a site to see all the cowboys, cowgirls and covered wagons traveling down the city streets.
This was the 4th year that the girls and I have gone to see the trail riders and by far this was the best.
It was the best because we couldn’t find the trail riders on our side of town since the maps of their routes are sketchy and not very reliable. However I knew I could easily find the ones from our old side of town so on a whim, we headed that way. We passed the park where we used to always play with some of our good friends and saw a group of people there waiting for the trail riders but we kept going until we found them instead of stopping at the park.
We watched the trail riders and cheered them on with our Jessie doll, since that is Princess Newbie’s best friend. Then we got in the car and I checked FB while waiting for the traffic to die out so we could go. That’s when I noticed a FB posting from those same friends that we used to play with stating that they were at the park waiting to see the trail riders. A phone call and a quick trip to the park and we met up with our friends that we hadn’t seen in a long time and got to watch the trail riders again.
The Trail Riders stop at this same park, Cullen Park, for lunch every year so we got to walk among them and talk with them about their horses. We also got to watch one obviously male horse pee for an extremely long time which caused intense laughing with our city slicker kids.
And now our girls have gotten to see history in action once again and we can’t wait to see it again next year.
Are you going to the Houston Rodeo?
