The Sweetest Ending With See’s Candies

Wednesday was a bad mommy day. It didn’t start out bad, it started out great. There was coffee and a movie before a small outdoor play time for the kids and a  computer play time for mommy. It was all good. Do you hear the bad evil music starting now? Then about two hours before lunch I told the girls that we all needed to go pick up the upstairs. I knew their room had a few piles that needed to be taken care of, the playroom picked up and their bathroom needed everything wiped down. That shouldn’t take more than two hours right? wrong. I got the older two started with one picking up the playroom and one starting to pick up their room. Except the one picking up their room was flat out refusing to do it. She spent the first hour sitting on her bed telling me that she was not going to clean her room. The other one just happens to be the one that will not clean, just hides things. So while one girl was sitting on her bed refusing to clean, the other one was busy hiding things behind bean bags and storage boxes in the playroom. I was busy in the youngest girl’s room because the resident 3 year old had dumped all the hand me down clothes out of the 4 plastic bins that had been in her closet. So I had to sort through 4 bins of clothes, refold them and resort them. While I was at it I decided to go ahead and get her out the next size clothes and switch it all out. After an hour I decided to get up and go check on progress of the older two. There was no progress at all. The oldest was still sitting on her bed refusing to clean, the middle had drug more toys out to play with than she had actually put up and the littlest was busy knocking over all the stacks of clothes while I was out of the room. Let’s just assume that this scene will replay itself for the next hour and then the next one after that, regardless of me giving them exact step by step jobs to do in the room they were supposed to be cleaning. Then a major pile of clean but now dirty clothes was found in their closet under a big blanket and mommy went postal. There was also a substance found in both upstairs sinks that at first glance appeared to be throw up but was later found to be cat food soaked in water. Mommy got madder. Around this time I asked Princess Goofy to help carry all the dirty clothes downstairs to the laundry room. Well without saying anything or asking for help, she decided to start a load of clothes in the washing machine. Let’s just say that I smelled the BLEACH she put in the washing machine with all her favorite (and best) multi colored clothes from upstairs. *head desk*  *head desk*   *head desk* At this point the day was toast. I was so frazzled that I was shaking, I might have cried, and I was still mad. As soon as Damion got home I had to run out the door for an event and I was so worked up that I almost skipped it. But I am oh so glad that I went. You see, I was invited to the media night for the See’s candy store opening here in Houston in the Willowbrook Mall. (sigh) There was yummy chocolates just being handed to me left and right. The thing you want most in this world after a horrific day is yummy candy, right? Friends from California had been obsessing about See’s candy to me for years but since this is their first store in Houston, I had never had it.  Let’s just say that I am forever sold. Not only is it the best chocolate candy I have ever had, it is obvious that they have a passion for the candy they sell. There were so many stories told to us about the traditions, the hand made chocolates, hand painted chocolate easter eggs even to this day and even a story about the floor. See’s candy has a black and white tiled floor because it’s the same floor that the founder of the company’s mother had in her kitchen. I am a history buff so I loved it. My favorite was the Dark Bordeaux which had Brown Sugar Buttercream filling covered in dark chocolate. This surprised me because I usually do not like dark chocolate, it’s just too bitter for me. However See’s dark chocolate is not bitter at all, it’s amazing. Plus you had me at brown sugar buttercream. The absolute best part of visiting See’s didn’t happen at the store though. It happened when I came home. I had left this house so mad and flustered that I didn’t really tell my kids goodbye like I should have.  Then when everyone else was asleep I heard the resident three year old crying upstairs from a nightmare. Nothing I did could calm her down until I said, “Do you want a chocolate?”.  “Yes Mom”, she said while instantly calming down. I brought her downstairs and we shared a chocolate from See’s with a glass of milk in the kitchen.  Somehow the worst day had the absolute sweetest ending. Just my youngest and myself in the kitchen, sharing a chocolate. Nothing else, not even the bleach covered clothes, really matters.
