It’s official. My sister now has a less complicated last name. This comes with several pros and cons. First of all it’s easy to know when it’s a telemarketer calling because there has never been a telemarketer in the history of the world to pronounce “Ms. Kralka” on the first try. Before I got married I even got a few telemarketers asking for “Ms. Crocodile”. People will no longer ask her, “gee where is that name from?” or if her real last name is “Clark”. Where do people come up with these things? So now she has a plain and simple last name and if the 6 year old ring bearer knows anything, will soon have a baby in her belly.
I meant to blog last week some. However once I reached Fort Worth the allergies I had last Sunday kept getting worse and worse until I was so sick that I finally had to admit maybe it was more than just allergies. I soldiered through and drug my little germ infested self to a shower, the rehearsal dinner and finally to the wedding before coming home on Saturday and resting all day today. I am so glad I still went to everything and contaminated her friends because I know it meant a lot to her. So between baking the cake while trying not to sneeze on it and being sick, I didn’t have time to blog. Oh and Princess Newbie woke up for the day at 2am on Tuesday and didn’t go back to bed until the next night.
Both cakes were baked and decorated by myself and they are some of the cakes that I am most proud of. I was nervous being that I was making them at my in-laws, who were so gracious to let me do that, and I didn’t have a lot of my usual stuff. I packed a ton of supplies, including my mixer, and took them to Fort Worth with me but of course I forgot a lot of stuff here. The brides cake was a 4 tier White Almond Cake with chocolate hazelnut filling and also a vanilla bean filling. The topper was two pears and there was pear flowers on the cake as well. I love how this cake turned out.
The groom’s cake was a bass. Scott, my new brother-in-law (isn’t he lucky?), is a major fisherman. So my sister asked me to make him a bass cake. It was a chocolate cake decorated to look like a bass on a faux wooden base, all done with fondant. It’s super fun. I wanted to do a red velvet cake for the inside ala Steel Magnolias but I didn’t.
The three princesses were the flower girls. The oldest two, even the one with major stage fright, did awesome!
Princess Newbie did good too but she kinda got to the end of the aisle and decided to go in super slow motion. One petal an hour was her rate so her daddy jumped in there to help escort her down.
The whole night was great. My sister was GORGEOUS, the venue Bluebonnet Ranch was amazing, seeing all my family was so wonderful and the kids had a blast on the dance floor.
But now we’re home and back to the grind. Tomorrow I have to unpack all 15 boxes and bags that are currently in our living room and get back to life. I am slowly getting better too. Just a little cough remains.
Congrats to my sister Julia and her new husband Scott! You guys are wonderful.
