Halloween is over. Whew!
Did anyone else find themselves making costumes the night before halloween or was that just me?
The past few years we’ve had many different costumes.
Way way back we had Tinkerbell, A princess and a very sad M&M. Once she figured out she got candy, her night improved greatly. And yes, the pink princesses skirt was sewn on sideways, thanks for noticing.
The next year we traveled to my in-laws house in North Texas for halloween. Once again we had princesses, two hand sewn and one repurposed birthday gift Snow White costume.
We had so much fun that the next year we went back to Mimi and Paw Paw’s house but one of our kids got extremely sick so there are not any pictures. The worst part was trying to explain to her the next day that she had missed halloween. She kept asking when she could go trick or treating. It was sad.
It was the first year of the Flower Pot Girl costume but she didn’t get to wear it.
Since our youngest daughter didn’t get to wear the Flower Pot Girl costume the first year, she wore it trick or treating the next year. Her sisters were a pink fairy and a peacock.
And then the minions showed up. A yellow minion and purple minion costume made from felt and dollar store items were the hit of the year. Of course when you have minions, you also need a mermaid. We found this costume at a garage sale for $1 and she loved it.
You know you live in Texas when every halloween photo has pictures of your kids in flip flops.
Then there was last year. I was so sick with a kidney infection at the same time my foot was in a walking boot. It was crazy. Somehow I was able to throw these costumes together. My middle daughter pulled her pink fairy costume out of the dress up box and the other two asked for Batman and Robin costumes.
Then there was this year….
Introducing the kitty cat, which she had begged for months to be for halloween, the owl and an Icee Cup.
It was a rainy yucky day so the pictures aren’t the best but the memories are.
The cat is scratching the door post. It’s very hard to photograph a very tall kitty cat that insists on jumping and clawing things.
The kitty cat was a simply an ear and tail kit I bought at The Walmarts for $5. We added that to black tights and a black shirt she can wear year round and it was win – win. Plus she was adorable.
Our middle daughter wanted to be an owl so we paired a cheap owl mask with a handmade felt pair of wings and she was ready to take flight.
Then there was our oldest daughter – the Icee obsessed kid that begs us to take her to get an Icee.
She told me from the start that she wanted to make her own costume. My creative momma heart was so proud.
I showed her how to make a shirt using freezer paper stencils and then she ran with it from there. She made her own tutu and painted her own shirt. I helped her with her hat but the idea for it was hers alone.
Her costume was a huge hit with everyone at the fall festival.
I am extremely proud of her in her first costume making project. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next year.
So that was our halloween. We stayed nice and dry at our church’s fall festival after a morning of flooding and heavy rains in our area.
Of course now that Halloween is over, it’s time for Christmas to start!
Ok so yes, there’s still Thanksgiving, but Christmas Toffee, also known as Christmas Crack, is so festive that you can start making it now and keep going until after Thanksgiving.
Have you tried Christmas Toffee?
It’s time to try it – You’ll be tired of candy bars soon. Try this recipe instead.
