Valentine’s Wreath Tutorial

Friday I posted this wreath and then promised the tutorial for today. Since the next few episodes of “The Big Bang Theory” hasn’t come in the mail via Netflix yet, I guess I will post the tutorial today. If it had come in the mail then well all know that I would be doing nothing but having a “Big Bang Theory” marathon.  I am not crazy, my mother had me tested. This is a great easy project for those of you that are scared of harder craft projects. First you need the following supplies… flat wreath form, wide wired ribbon that is at least 1/2 inch wider than your wreath form, hot glue gun, wooden heard, chalkboard paint, white paint pen and chalk. (I found this ribbon at the craft store for 80% off since it was Christmas ribbon. Don’t forget to look in the Christmas clearance section for red ribbon before you start your project! ) To start, fold about an inch of the ribbon under itself and light tack in place with hot glue. You will be pulling this up later to finish the wreath so just make sure you can pull it up later when you glue it down. Pull the ribbon back over itself and then fold back again to start making accordion folds. Tack the bottom of the fold with hot glue to the wreath form. It’s kinda hard to explain but from the side it should look like this…. Does that make more sense? This is why it’s best to use wired ribbon because it holds the shape well of the folds. You could measure the distance between every fold for you OCD friends out there but considering that perfection is my arch enemy, I just eyeballed it. Now keep going until you get all the way around your wreath. To finish it off, just untack that first piece of ribbon that you lightly glued down and slide the end of your ribbon under it. Glue the end of the ribbon to the wreath form and then glue the first piece back on top and you’re done. Now you should have a complete circle of pleated ribbon with no noticeable stopping or starting point. Perfect. Simple. Easy. Love. Now let’s do the chalkboard heart. Start by painting your heart with chalkboard paint. You can buy some in a can, spray paint variety or make your own by adding 2 tablespoons of unsanded grout to one cup of paint. Let the paint dry and then use your white paint pen to add a white boarder and scallops around the edge. I might have forgotten to take a picture of this part. Can you tell? let’s just pretend that you can’t. Memory is just a kid’s game in my life. Now glue a string attached to your chalk to the back of your heart and then glue your heart onto the wreath. Now your wreath is fabulous, lovely and ready to be displayed for Valentine’s Day.
