But today I had the good type of tired. You know the type when you have done so much that day that has made you smile that now your frown lines are personally requesting attention. That was our day today.
Even though I rolled out of bed at 6am on a saturday and had everyone bathed and out the door for the swim meet by 7am, it was a great day. Even though I spend the entire morning and all of the afternoon outside in the sweltering Texas heat at the pool, it was amazing. Even though we kinda bribed the girls to swim their best today with a trip to the hibachi grill tonight, it was delicious and good parenting (just kidding). Even though my eyes are watering because I’m so tired it was a blessed day. Today we spent the day at the swim meet, and then we went swimming just for fun, followed by a nice dinner out. It was so great and worth it all because we spent it together. There are so many downtimes at the swim meet that we spend together as a family, just treasuring the minutes that they still want to spend with us. Watching the girls swim for fun and seeing how far they’ve come this year is just exhilirating. Then we laughed and joked together while the chef making our dinner threw and egg into his hat and the chef behind him missed his target and the egg fell on the floor. It was great because it was together. 100% togetherness in a time when everyone desired 100% to be there (most of the time). So yes I’m tired but I’m happy. Now I have huge plans involving my pillow. Big, huge, massive plans……Being Together is Exhausting
Any mom would know that there are different types of tired in the world.
There’s the type that happens right after you’ve had a baby and you’ve been up the entire night. Your bloodshot, dark rimmed eyes glare at your husband as he bounces fresh as a daisy out bed and as you plop the cute adorable baby into his now able hands you say the words, “I am tired.”
Then there’s the type of tired reserved for back breaking labor days. You know the days when your husband pokes his head in from the garage and sweetly says, “can you come help me in the garage for just a minute?”. Three hours later you crawl back into the house covered in stains and grease, just hoping to locate the shower before you pass out. You are tired but not the “I’ve been up with a baby all night tired”, just more of the “I just did the work of 12 camels”, type of tired.
Of course there’s no way a mom could ever forget the “I can’t do my chores because I’m tired” type of tired. This type is where hypocondriacs are formed. “Please clean your room.” , “I can’t, I’m tired because I had to act like a frog at school today and frog jumps are exhausting”. This type of tired I see every single day and it drives me crazy.

I love that you’re so tired! There’s nothing sweeter than being with family. Can I just say how impressed I am that you got your kiddos showered and out the door in 1 hour? I can dream…Congrats on such a good day.
