The other day a friend emailed me and asked if I could make a corsage for a baby shower. My first thought was “NO!”. Corsages I know are supposed to make the mom feel special but the flower ones use all that baby’s breath and little trinkets that are stuck in the 90’s. No way did I want to be a part of the 90’s anymore. The penny loafers and huge bows are not my style anymore!
But it got my brain going which is down right scary! A quick google image search proved to me that modern corsages can be made but how could I do one quickly without knowing the sex of the baby? I decided to make one using fake flowers but I still needed something to put in the middle of the flowers. Luckily I had actually cleaned my art shelves the day before (His Royal Highness is so happy with me) and I knew that I had one small sheet of Shrinky Dinks left from a previous project. It was the perfect size.
In case you don’t know. Shrinky Dinks are a plastic flimsy sheet that you draw on with permanent markers and then heat it in the oven to shrink and harden it. I decided to make a cute Mommy-to-be button to go in the middle of the flower. I didn’t like the turtle drawing though so I decided to cover that up with a little purple gem.

In the end, I loved it. It’s a perfect fit to this modern scrapbooking era. The corsage would look so cute in a scrapbook or personalized memory box. I really hope the mom loved it and will cherish it.
